We\u2019re back with this week\u2019s Three Stars, and all three are from the same forward line.<\/p>\n

Mandatory Credit: Jeff Curry-Imagn Images<\/p>\n <\/em><\/p>\n It was a middling week for the Flyers, going 1-1-1 through three games\u2013though truthfully, perhaps it could\u2019ve been 2-1-0 had a certain play not been called offsides. Alas, the record is the record, and we\u2019ll start with the bad news: the Flyers have fallen out of a wildcard spot, with the two New York teams ahead of them. The good news is that the Eastern Conference is still in such a state of flux that, by the end of next week, the could stumble right back into a playoff spot. That\u2019s important with American Thanksgiving fast approaching, as nearly 80 percent of teams in a playoff spot on Turkey Day end up in the postseason.<\/p>\n More good news? One of the Flyers\u2019 forward lines has been\u00a0cooking<\/em>. They didn\u2019t do much in Wednesday\u2019s overtime loss to the Edmonton Oilers (though in a 2-1 game, nobody really did), but they factored on the lone goal in Saturday\u2019s 5-1 loss to the Dallas Stars and scored all five goals (and the shootout winner!) in Friday\u2019s 6-5 win over the St. Louis Blues. It should come as no surprise that those three forwards make up all three of our stars this week, but we still have to sort them from third to first. Let\u2019s get into it.<\/p>\n 1 goal, 3 assists, 4 points, 3 games played, 16:19 Average Time On Ice (ATOI)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n While it\u2019s clear Dvorak isn\u2019t the main driver of the line with Owen Tippett and Trevor Zegras, he still finished the week with three goals, one assist, and four points in three games. For an offseason free agent signing expected to fill a bottom-six role, that\u2019s pretty good!<\/p>\n What\u2019s crucial about Dvorak\u2019s goals is that he embodies the message head coach Rick Tocchet is trying to get through to the team: get to the net and jam pucks in. Dvorak\u2019s first goal against the Blues was a perfect example, skating up to the net as a rebound bounced around in front of Jordan Binnington and slamming it home.<\/p>\n Then, against the Dallas Stars, Dvorak did something similar, skating the puck right in front of Jake Oettinger and backhanding it past his outstretched leg. It would be the Flyers\u2019 only tally, but at least Dvorak was able to deny Oettinger the shutout.<\/p>\n Dvorak isn\u2019t a flashy player but, for all his good work in the Blues game and scoring the one Flyers goal in Dallas, he\u2019s certainly earned third star privileges this week.<\/p>\n 2 goals, 1 assist, 3 points, 3 games played, 18:33 ATOI<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n What a year Trevor Zegras is having: he\u2019s got 19 points in 18 games and is averaging the second most ice time of his career, the last time being 18:50 a night in his sophomore season with the Anaheim Ducks. This was a player the Ducks were willing to part with for Ryan Poehling, a second-round pick, and a fourth-round pick, so as we often say: thank you, Pat Verbeek.<\/p>\n Zegras may not have had as many points as Dvorak this week, but he gets extra credit (and second star honors) for this:<\/p>\n While they usually ask \u201chow many\u201d and not \u201chow,\u201d that isn\u2019t the case with Zegras\u2013it is an absolute treat to watch him go one-on-one with goalies, and he had two chances to do so against the Blues.<\/p>\n Zegras had an opportunity to end the game in overtime when he was awarded a penalty shot after being tripped up on a breakaway, but Binnington managed to stop him; Zegras wasn\u2019t happy about it, pounding his fists on the bench and clearly shouting an expletive on the broadcast as he missed out on the hat trick. This is the Philadelphia Flyers, though, so of course overtime ended with no decision and a shootout was necessary; Zegras didn\u2019t miss this time, and the Flyers got the win. His shootout skills are a difference maker, and that makes him our second star this week.<\/p>\n 1 goal, 4 assists, 5 points, 3 games played, 15:17 ATOI<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n From a six-game scoring drought (including Wednesday\u2019s match against the Oilers) to five points in two games, Owen Tippett popped off on the dads\u2019 road trip. He hadn\u2019t put the puck in the net himself for ten games, so that goal against the Blues was big for him, but it\u2019s his work assisting his linemates that get him first star honors this week.<\/p>\n That is some outstanding work from Tippett in the offensive zone, forcing Matthew Kessel into a turnover and finding Dvorak skating into the slot with a great pass. A few minutes later, Zegras found Tippett in the slot and\u2013like Dvorak before him\u2013rips one home from between the faceoff circles. More of this please, Owen:<\/p>\n Tippett\u2019s been under a lot of scrutiny the last few weeks, even\u00a0popping up in a few trade rumors. He started the season hot, with five goals in the first six games before going on a 10-game goalless streak. Here\u2019s hoping he manages to prolong this scoring for a few more games. It\u2019s the second year of his big extension, and he\u2019s still that frustrating, streaky goal scorer but, for this week, he was dynamite, and gets the first star as a result.<\/p>\n On Sunday night, Scott Morrow made his New York Rangers debut after being called up from the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League earlier that day.<\/p>\n The Rangers acquired Morrow over the summer as part of the sign-and-trade deal with the Carolina Hurricanes centered around K\u2019Andre Miller.\u00a0<\/p>\n During training camp, Morrow was given an opportunity to make the opening-night roster, as he played in multiple preseason games while practicing on the second power-play unit.\u00a0<\/p>\n He was one of the last players to be sent down to the AHL before the start of the 2025-26 season. In 11 games for the Wolf Pack, Morrow recorded one goal, one assist, and two points.<\/p>\n With Will Borgen out with an upper-body injury, the Rangers called up Morrow, and he was immediately slotted into the lineup in place of Urho Vaakanainen.\u00a0<\/p>\n The 23-year-old defenseman played 9:56 minutes in his NHL season debut, the fewest amongst all Rangers blueliners.\u00a0<\/p>\n However, Rangers assistant coach David Quinn praised Morrow for his performance.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI liked his game. I thought Scotty did a good job,\u201d Quinn said. \u201cI thought he kept it simple. He moves the puck well, gets us out of our end when we needed to get out of our end when the chances presented themselves. I thought he defended well.\u201d<\/p>\n Borgen\u2019s injury status remains a mystery, so it\u2019s possible Morrow could find himself back in the lineup on Tuesday night when the Rangers go up against the Vegas Golden Knights.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" We\u2019re back with this week\u2019s Three Stars, and all three are from the same forward line.
