The Golden Bachelor<\/em>\u00a0gave us\u00a0quite the finale\u00a0on Wednesday night as Mel and Peg chose each other, and Cindy self-eliminated prior to the Fantasy Suites. There was no proposal\u2014there wasn’t even a declaration of \u201cI love you\u201d\u2014but in some ways, this may have been the most normal ending we\u2019ve seen on the show.<\/p>\n

After five weeks of both one-on-one and group dates, Mel wasn\u2019t ready to propose to anyone. Many called into question why he would even go on the show in the first place (never mind the podcast comments) if he wasn\u2019t ready for marriage, but I give him credit for not leading anyone on or being someone he\u2019s not. When Cindy decided to go home prior to the Fantasy Suites because Mel couldn\u2019t give her the commitment she wanted, he didn\u2019t go after her. He certainly didn\u2019t try to convince her to stay, either.<\/p>\n

And when Mel told Peg that Cindy was gone, he also didn\u2019t make false promises to her, either, just because she was the last one standing. Instead he wanted to introduce Peg to his sons and best friend, Diane, because in a normal relationship that\u2019s just what you do. Sure, it felt a little funny when he said goodbye to Peg at the end of the day and said, \u201cTomorrow we\u2019ll celebrate.\u201d But then again, that\u2019s only because we as Bachelor Nation have become accustomed to larger-than-life, unrealistic endings. (One look at Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist\u2014who have been majorly at odds following his book release\u2014should tell you all you need to know.)<\/p>\n

As Peg said, \u201cI\u2019m not for everybody, and he\u2019s not for everybody, but we\u00bbre for each other.\u201d Mel also gave Peg a Neil Lane ring as a sign of his commitment. And when Peg and Mel signed onto Zoom for their interview with Glamour less than 24 hours after the live finale, Mel said to me, \u201cI told you I was going to get someone good.\u201d<\/p>\n

So what\u2019s next for the Golden Bachelor couple? When did they even realize they were in love? And who do they think would be the best choice to follow in Joan Vassos\u2019s footsteps as the next Golden Bachelorette? Below, they answer all that and more.<\/p>\n

Glamour<\/em>: Congratulations to you both! Mel, you weren\u2019t kidding about the fireworks, literally and figuratively. You\u2019re in love, too, but we didn\u2019t hear those words until the \u201cAfter the Final Rose\u201d live taping. So when did you guys know you were in love, and when did you first say those words to each other?<\/p>\n

Peg Munson:<\/strong>\u00a0Well, I knew I was growing in love with him during this whole journey. So it was one day at a time, and it was just opening up my heart and my mind to allow that to happen naturally. It wasn\u2019t just one day, like, \u201cBoom! I\u2019m in love with you.\u201d It\u2019s time. It takes time to get to know somebody, and it takes time to fall in love with somebody. It was a progression for me.<\/p>\n

Mel, what about you? When did you first say \u201cI love you\u201d to Peg?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mel Owens:<\/strong>\u00a0When I first met Peg, I had a crush on her. It was almost that instantaneous electricity and a connection, and then it grew over time. By time we were on the island in Antigua, and then we went to the little island, I realized, I\u2019m in love with her. I just became infatuated with her, and I had a crush on her, and it\u2019s still growing.<\/p>\n

I have to say, while we love a grand gesture or a proposal, I think you guys probably did it the smartest way. You\u2019re in an accelerated timeline, and you\u2019ve only known each other for about five weeks, so don\u2019t rush the feelings. You might\u2019ve done it the smartest way of any couple on this show. Do you feel that?<\/p>\n

Peg:<\/strong>\u00a0We appreciate that. We really appreciate that.<\/p>\n

Mel:<\/strong>\u00a0It\u2019s because I\u2019m a Michigan guy!<\/p>\n

Peg:<\/strong> He\u2019s a smart guy. He\u2019s a smart guy.<\/p>\n

Speaking of smart people, Peg met Diane during the family visit with your sons. Is this the same Diane that you mentioned in our first sit-down interview, the one who kind of schooled you on the aftermath of the podcast?<\/p>\n

Mel:<\/strong>\u00a0Yes, she\u2019s the most reasonable person I\u2019ve ever met. She\u2019s just so reasonable. She\u2019s deputy commissioner of the Big 10. She\u2019s the attorney, spokesperson, and media person. She put together billion-dollar deals for TV. And she\u2019s a reality TV junkie, too, which I didn\u2019t even know until she was setting me straight. But she gave me good counsel. She really did.<\/p>\n

Before we get into what\u2019s next for you and Peg, I want to go back to that night on the dock with Cindy when she decided to go home. I personally think that at that moment, you knew then that Peg was your person. Otherwise you would have tried to convince Cindy to stay. Am I wrong in assuming that?<\/p>\n

Mel:<\/strong>\u00a0I had a deeper connection with Peg. I just did. Had it been reversed and [Peg left], I wouldn\u2019t have let her go. I would\u2019ve told her, \u201cHey, look, stay here because we\u2019re going to work it out.\u201d Cindy didn\u2019t even utilize the Fantasy Suite, which she could have, but that\u2019s okay. She had her own decision to make, her own prerogative. My connection with Peg was much stronger, and your intuition was correct.<\/p>\n

I love that. \u201cI wouldn\u2019t let you go.\u201d Look at you, Mr. Romantic!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mel:<\/strong>\u00a0Peg\u2019s the best gal ever.<\/p>\n

You bring out such a spark in one another. There\u2019s a playfulness and youthfulness there. So let\u2019s talk about Thanksgiving plans. Where will you be, and how do you plan on making this work in terms of going back and forth between Las Vegas and Orange County?<\/p>\n

Peg:<\/strong>\u00a0Well, the nice thing about being in our golden years is we get to do things [according to our timeline]. Thanksgiving, we\u2019re going to be in Detroit. We\u2019re going to be in Ann Arbor, and then Christmas we\u2019re going to be in Rio. We\u2019re going back to Vegas for his birthday. Then we\u2019re going to the Super Bowl in San Francisco. We have a lot on our plate. It\u2019s time to live life and enjoy life.<\/p>\n

Mel:<\/strong> She left out one thing. When we go to Ann Arbor, Michigan, we\u2019re going to go to something called Hob Nobble Gobble. It\u2019s a big gala, bigger than the Emmys, and that\u2019s in Michigan. Before that we\u2019re going to Toronto and Montreal; we\u2019re going to be in Detroit for Hob Nobble Gobble, and then also the Michigan and Ohio State game. And then back for my birthday to Vegas. She\u2019s taking me to The Sphere to see one of my favorite movies of all time, The Wizard of Oz.<\/p>\n

Peg:<\/strong>\u00a0It\u2019s go time for us.<\/p>\n

I want to ask one more thing about Cindy: Peg, did you get a chance to talk to her last night, or did they keep you separate?<\/p>\n

Peg:<\/strong> No, I haven\u2019t seen her. After the finale last night, we went to dinner with a few of our other friends. I just wanted something very low-key, something peaceful, so the girls\u2014the ones that I connected with\u2014we just went and had a good dinner. I love Cindy. She\u2019s beautiful, she\u2019s smart, she\u2019s vivacious, she\u2019s very well-spoken, and she\u2019s got a prerogative to live her life and find the love that works for her. It doesn\u2019t make her right. It doesn\u2019t make her wrong. Hats off to her because she knew what she wanted. She\u2019ll find it. She really will. She will find that person that wants to be married quickly. There\u2019s nothing wrong with that. I love her dearly, and I hope that she definitely finds that for herself.<\/p>\n

So who\u2019s your pick, then, for the next Golden Bachelorette?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Peg:<\/strong>\u00a0Debbie!<\/p>\n

Mel:<\/strong>\u00a0My opinion,\u00a0it would be Debbie. With my experience with her, she was the most authentic, sincere, honest person. I think she can carry the show too because of her background doing the workout videos and stuff. I think she\u2019d be a great person.<\/p>\n

Peg:<\/strong>\u00a0100% Debbie. She embraces everything\u2014the good, the bad, and the ugly of herself, which we all have. I love that about her. She doesn\u2019t try to hide parts of herself. \u201cThis is who I am. You love me or not, but this is who I am.\u201d That just makes her such a special human being. I\u2019m really rooting for Debbie.<\/p>\n

Lastly, how active do you both plan to be on your social media now? Will we see life going forward with Mel and Peg?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Peg:<\/strong>\u00a0We\u2019ve already posted. We posted last night. Go on there. It\u2019s a lot of fun.<\/p>\n

Mel:<\/strong>\u00a0There\u2019s a lot of fun to come, too!<\/p>\n

Peg:<\/strong>\u00a0We plan to share that with everybody.<\/p>\n

Mel:<\/strong>\u00a0The Hob Nobble Gobble parade is about a week before Thanksgiving, and the same people who put on the Hob Nobble Gobble do the Detroit Parade, which is the second-largest one outside of New York. So we\u2019re going to do the parade as well. It\u2019s going to be crazy.<\/p>\n

You better be on a float.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Peg:<\/strong>\u00a0Oh, that would be fun. That\u2019s really fun.<\/p>\n

Mel:<\/strong>\u00a0I want to go on the float, but they said, \u201cWe can\u2019t have people taking away from the float. We want the float to be a float.\u201d But we could walk with it, though.<\/p>\n

Peg:<\/strong>\u00a0I want my own firetruck float.<\/p>\n

Just think how much more publicity the float or the fire truck would get with the two of you on it. They\u2019ve got to get their float priorities in order.<\/p>\n

Mel:<\/strong>\u00a0My friend runs it, so I think we\u2019ll be all right. [Laughs.<\/em>]<\/p>\n

Robert Irwin wears his heart on his sleeve.<\/p>\n

Irwin, 21, took to TikTok on Sunday, November 16, to share his preshow rituals while competing on season 34 of Dancing With the Stars.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery show day on Dancing With the Stars, I have two good luck charms that I bring with me. These things keep me close to home and to what\u2019s most important to me,\u201d he said, noting that he wears a green button-up shirt that once belonged to his late dad, Steve Irwin, and a gold ring.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is my dad\u2019s shirt,\u201d Robert said while smiling. \u201cI was going through his stuff and I found this shirt. It\u2019s absolutely tattered and has holes and is missing buttons,\u201d he added before turning around and showing off the lived-in piece.<\/p>\n

Robert then explained that he got the shirt \u201cfixed up\u201d and replaced the old buttons and patched up the rips.<\/p>\n

\u201cI like that it still looks and feels like him. This shirt definitely saw a lot. I guess it\u2019s kind of a good example of how dad lived his life,\u201d he gushed.<\/p>\n

The wildlife conservationist explained that every morning ahead of a show, he puts on the button-up and wears it for his and Witney Carson\u2019s \u201cfirst rehearsal\u201d of the day.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt just keeps me close to home, it keeps me close to him. It feels like a big hug,\u201d Robert continued. \u201cEvery time I step out into the ballroom, I represent my dad\u2019s legacy, my home, my family.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Monday, November 17, Robert opened up about his second good luck charm \u2014 a gold ring that\u2019s \u201creally, really special\u201d to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cA while ago, I was cleaning out my dad\u2019s office, [and] one of the things I found was a set of keys from our original childhood home,\u201d he explained. \u201cI took those keys and got them melted down and turned into a ring.\u201d<\/p>\n

Robert then zoomed in on the design and showed the engravings, which read \u201c1638\u201d in honor of the Australia Zoo\u2019s address at 1638 Steve Irwin Way.<\/p>\n

He shared that he puts on the jewelry every Tuesday morning when he heads to the Dancing With the Stars studio.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cIt\u2019s the most beautiful experience, and in some way, I want him part of it. This experience has truly changed my life. I know I wouldn\u2019t be here without him and his legacy that I get to continue.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last week, Robert\u2019s sister, Bindi Irwin \u2014 who won season 21 of DWTS \u2014 joined him on the dance floor for his foxtrot to \u201cFootprints in the Sand\u201d by Leona Lewis. They honored Steve, who died in 2006 from a stingray injury, with an emotional tribute. At the end of the routine, photos of his family were projected onto the dance floor, making Robert tear up. Bindi, 27, and Witney, 32, comforted him before he heard from the judges (who gave him a perfect score).<\/p>\n
