The President told Fox News today that the person of interest being sought by the FBI was arrested in southern Utah, days after the late conservative influencer was gunned down in the state. The suspect has now been identified by authorities as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson and a mugshot of him released.<\/p>\n
The agency had mounted a fierce manhunt after releasing a series of images and a video of the suspect, who could be seen wearing a pair of sunglasses, cap and US flag t-shirt, wanted in connection with\u00a0Kirk’s fatal shooting.<\/p>\n
Utah governor Spencer Cox alleged Robinson had plotted the attack on Discord and said a message on one of the bullets found inside the rifle used to shoot Charlie said “catch fascists”.<\/p>\n
Jack Ross, chief executive of Turning Point UK, the British wing of the conservative group Charlie Kirk founded in the US said Kirk was “likely assassinated because of his political views.”<\/p>\n
Ross added that the \u201chorrific\u201d shooting had left him feeling \u201cempty\u201d inside.<\/p>\n
“It’s such a waste for him to have been murdered in this way. If the assassin disagreed with him that much, why didn’t he come down and debate him at the stand?” told Sky News presenter Matt Barbet.<\/p>\n
He paid tribute to Kirk saying he \u201cwas that very intelligent man, funny man, quick and also very kind as well.”<\/p>\n
Donald Trump has shared a photo of himself and Charlie Kirk embracing on his Truth Social media platform.<\/p>\n
The picture shows the pair embracing in front of a US and Israeli flag. In an interview on Fox News earlier today one of the interviewers said he felt like Charlie Kirk “is for you, almost like a family member”. Trump said his eldest son, Don Jr, “said to me, ‘he’s sort of like a son to you’.”<\/p>\n
The suspect arrested in Charlie Kirk’s shooting is expected to be charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury and obstruction of justice, according to a probable cause affidavit.<\/p>\n
The offenses are all state charges.<\/p>\n
Gov. Spencer Cox said that under Utah law, they have three days to file charging documents. He said that it should come “early next week.”<\/p>\n
Utah, where the shooting took place, is one of five US states that authorise death by firing squad.<\/p>\n

Tyler Robinson, aged 22, has been arrested in connection with the assassination.<\/p>\n
He was arrested in Washington County, in south west Utah where he had been living with his family.<\/p>\n
He is not currently a student at Utah Valley University, where the shooting took place.<\/p>\n
He drove to the site of the talk being given by Charlie Kirk, arriving on campus at 8.29am local time.<\/p>\n
He was spotted dressed in a “plain maroon t-shirt, light-coloured shorts, a black hat with a white logo and light-coloured shoes”.<\/p>\n
He changed clothes while on the roof and changed back into his previous outfit again later.<\/p>\n
A rifle wrapped in a dark-coloured towel was found in a wooded area nearby.<\/p>\n
Following the shooting he drove back to his family home about three and a half hours away.<\/p>\n
Washington County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a friend of the family last night, who said a family member of Robinson had told them that he had confessed or implied he committed the shooting.<\/p>\n
Utah governor Spencer Cox said a message engraved on the casing of one of the bullets found inside the rifle used in the shooting “speaks for itself”.<\/p>\n
Answering a question during the press conference on how he interpreted the engravings on the bullet cases, Cox says: “Well, I will leave that up to you to interpret what those engravings mean.”<\/p>\n
He adds: “I think the clearest one that says ‘catch fascists’… That’s like catch a ball – ‘catch this’.<\/p>\n
“I think that speaks for itself.”<\/p>\n

Robinson has been booked into Utah County Jail, and his mugshots have been released.<\/p>\n
The Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation used the press conference to deliver a personal message to the late Charlie Kirk.<\/p>\n
He relayed his message at a press conference being held by local and federal law enforcement.<\/p>\n
He said: “Rest now brother, we have the watch. I’ll see you in Valhalla.”<\/p>\n
The FBI Director Kash Patel said the department had received more than 11,000 leads on the case.<\/p>\n
He added that the bureau will investigate each of those leads as he thanked the public for their support.<\/p>\n

“Investigators interviewed that roommate who stated that his roommate, referring to Robinson, made a joke on discord,” Cox said.<\/p>\n
He continued: “The content of these messages included messages affiliated with the contact Tyler stating a need to retrieve a rifle from a drop point, leaving the rifle in a bush, messages related to visually watching the area where a rifle was left, and a message referring to having left the rifle wrapped in a towel.”<\/p>\n
A press conference is currently underway, with federal and local law enforcement providing further details about the suspect.<\/p>\n

Retired FBI agent and profiler James Clemente says that the shooter is likely to have given away information about a planned assassination attempt to friends or family or on social media.<\/p>\n
“This is not likely a repeat offense for this person. It\u2019s probably the first time that they ever acted out in this way, and, therefore, they probably leaked out information beforehand,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He went on to say that they do this \u201cbecause they don\u2019t know for certain that this is what they\u2019re going to do, but they are building up this frustration and anger and rage, and they want to take it out\u201d.<\/p>\n
A man in custody over the shooting of Charlie Kirk confessed to his father that he was the shooter, sources told CNN.<\/p>\n
Donald Trump also said that “someone very close” to the suspect helped to give him up to the police.<\/p>\n
It comes as the suspect in custody has been named as a 22-year-old from Utah by a law enforcement official.<\/p>\n
