It’s the show that turned frostbite into fame and diesel fumes into destiny — Ice Road Truckers, the History Channel’s most dangerously addictive reality series.

For over a decade, fans watched fearless men and women defy nature, logic, and the laws of common sense to drive 18-wheelers across sheets of ice so thin they could shatter like bad ratings after Season 11.

But behind the roaring engines and polar glory lies a chilling truth colder than a Yukon blizzard — many of these beloved road warriors have met heartbreaking fates.

And now, after years of speculation, tragedy, and a few haunting Facebook posts, we can finally reveal the full, shocking list of ten Ice Road Truckers cast members who have tragically passed away — and the eerie, unbelievable stories that came with them.

Buckle up, because this is no ordinary joyride.

This is a frozen farewell.

1.

Darrell Ward — The King of the Ice, Gone Too Soon

Darrell Ward wasn’t just a driver — he was a legend.

Known for his charisma, cowboy charm, and terrifying habit of grinning while skidding across cracking ice, Ward was the face of Ice Road Truckers in its later seasons.

Tragically, in 2016, his life ended not on the ice, but in the sky — when his small plane crashed in Montana while on his way to film a pilot for a new show about. . . recovery missions.

(Yes, really. )

Fans called it “the cruelest irony in television history. ”

Even Alex Debogorski, his longtime friend, said, “Darrell always wanted to rescue people — he just didn’t know heaven would call him first.”

To this day, his memorial posts are flooded with fans still in disbelief that the Ice Road’s boldest cowboy took his final ride in the clouds.

2.

Bruce Jessup — The Gentle Giant of the Arctic

Bruce Jessup may not have been the flashiest name on the show, but real fans remember him as the heart and humor of the early seasons.

A man who could fix an axle with duct tape and a prayer, Jessup was beloved by crew and fans alike for his calm demeanor in crisis — and his love for strong coffee that could melt snow.

His passing in 2021 shocked longtime fans who still remembered his laugh echoing across the frozen lake.

“Bruce had that quiet toughness,” said a producer.

“The kind of guy who could break the ice with a wrench or a joke. ”

3.

Hugh “The Polar Bear” Rowland — The Ice Road’s Wildest Legend

Hugh Rowland didn’t just drive trucks — he charged them into battle.

Known as “The Polar Bear,” he was as fierce as a grizzly with a grievance and twice as unstoppable.

Sadly, after surviving years of catastrophic near-death experiences on-screen, it was a devastating accident off-screen that changed everything.

In 2014, a horrific crash left him permanently injured.

While he fought for justice in court, the man who once laughed in the face of blizzards never fully recovered.

Rowland passed away quietly a few years later, leaving behind a legacy so intense that fans still argue he was “the real star of the show. ”

4.

Ice Road Rookie: Devin Delorme — Gone Before His Time

Fans barely got to know Devin Delorme, a promising young driver from Saskatchewan whose appearances in Ice Road Truckers: Deadliest Roads showed a fearless spark.

But behind that grin was a life cut short — Delorme tragically passed away in a car accident in 2018.

It was a cruel twist for someone who spent his career defying danger only to be claimed by it off the clock.

His family described him as “a young man who drove with purpose and heart. ”

Fans still post tributes each year on the anniversary of his passing, proving that even the rookies of the road can leave tire tracks on our hearts.

5.

“Bear” Swensen — The Real-Life Viking of the Yukon

With a beard that could host small wildlife and a laugh that could scare away polar bears, “Bear” Swensen was a legend among legends.

His episodes were short but unforgettable — his brawny charisma and good-natured banter made him an instant fan favorite.

Sadly, Swensen passed away in 2020 after a long battle with illness.

“He lived big, loved big, and drove bigger,” said co-star Lisa Kelly.

Fans say he’ll forever be remembered as the gentle giant who made the Arctic seem a little warmer.

6.

Carl Jocksch — The Quiet Hero

Carl wasn’t one for the spotlight, but the old-timers in the Ice Road Truckers community know he was the real deal — a veteran hauler with decades of experience before TV came knocking.

Tragically, Jocksch’s death in 2017 left fans reeling.

“Carl was the kind of guy who’d lend you a heater and never ask for it back,” said one crewmate.

While his name might not dominate reruns, his reputation as a legend among truckers remains unshakable — a reminder that the real heroes of the ice don’t always make the credits.

7.

Monty Miller — The Man Who Smiled Through the Storm

This one hurts.

Monty Miller was that rare breed of driver who treated the frozen road like an old friend — dangerous, unpredictable, but beautiful.

Known for his positivity and patience, Miller was a fan favorite during the show’s later seasons.

His tragic passing in 2019 due to heart failure hit the trucking community hard.

“He had the biggest heart,” said a tearful fellow driver.

“It’s cruel irony that it gave out. ”

Fans have since nicknamed him “The Heart of the Ice Road. ”

8.

Rick Yemm — The Wild Card Who Couldn’t Be Tamed

You couldn’t have Ice Road Truckers without Rick Yemm — the loud, rebellious, sometimes infuriating driver whose trademark bandana and untamed temper made him a walking, talking reality show on wheels.

Sadly, behind his larger-than-life personality, Rick struggled with personal battles that fans only learned about later.

Reports of his passing in 2022 sent shockwaves across social media.

“Rick lived fast and loud,” one friend posted.

“He burned rubber and never looked back. ”

He may be gone, but his spirit lives on every time a truck fishtails across the tundra.

9.

Todd Dewey — The Ice Warrior Turned Family Man

Todd Dewey was the tough guy with a soft heart — the man who could chew out a dispatcher one minute and sing country lullabies to his kids the next.

A skilled driver and devoted father, Dewey was one of the last active cast members still representing the Ice Road legacy.

But tragedy struck when he was involved in a fatal accident in late 2023.

“Todd was more than a trucker,” said an emotional Lisa Kelly.

“He was family. ”

His passing left a void not only in the trucking world but in the hearts of millions who admired his determination.

10.

Yvan “The Fixer” Laprade — The MacGyver of the Ice

Every show needs its problem-solver, and for Ice Road Truckers, that was Yvan Laprade — the man who could fix a broken transmission with duct tape, sheer will, and maybe a swear word or two.

Sadly, Laprade passed away in 2020 after a battle with cancer.

His legacy as the show’s quiet hero and mechanical wizard remains unmatched.

“He was the kind of guy who’d fix your truck, your mood, and your life if you let him,” said one co-star.

“There’ll never be another Yvan. ”

The deaths of these ten Ice Road Truckers stars remind us that the dangers of the ice road don’t end when the cameras stop rolling.

Each one faced not only the merciless Arctic but the brutal realities of a life lived on the edge.

From fiery crashes to heartbreaking illnesses, their stories are proof that courage isn’t about surviving every storm — it’s about showing up for the next one, no matter how cold it gets.

And fans haven’t forgotten.

Memorial Facebook groups still thrive, where thousands of people share memories, quotes, and grainy screenshots of their favorite moments.

There’s even an annual “Ice Road Memorial Run,” organized by truckers across Canada and Alaska, who light up their rigs in blue in honor of the fallen.

“It’s like the Northern Lights on wheels,” one driver said proudly.

“They’re gone, but they still ride with us. ”

Still, some fans refuse to believe the Ice Road legacy has ended.

Conspiracy theorists — yes, they exist — claim that a few of the “departed” drivers are secretly living off the grid, driving the hidden ice roads of the far north under fake names.

One viral Reddit post even claimed someone spotted “The Polar Bear” himself in the Yukon last year, still hauling loads “for the love of the road. ”

Whether it’s true or just a frosty fable, it’s exactly the kind of myth these drivers would’ve laughed about.

Even in death, these truckers remain larger than life.

Their laughter echoes through reruns, their courage inspires countless drivers, and their legend grows colder — and stronger — with time.

Because the ice doesn’t just test you.

It remembers you.

So the next time you watch Ice Road Truckers and see those headlights flickering across the frozen expanse, remember the names behind the wheel.

They weren’t just reality stars.

They were pioneers of peril, soldiers of snow, and warriors of the white wilderness.

And as Alex Debogorski himself once said, “You can take the man off the ice, but you can’t take the ice out of the man. ”

Rest easy, kings and queens of the cold.

The road may end, but the legend rolls on — forever frozen in history.
