Here is everything\u00a0Detroit Lions\u00a0head coach Dan Campbell told reporters, after his team lost 16-9 to the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Stadium.<\/p>\n

Credit to those guys over there. They earned that win. They made the plays in the critical moments there at the end to win it, so that\u2019s what they\u2019ve done. I was proud of the way the guys played. I thought they played their tails off, played hard, man. I thought we finished plays, tried to finish plays. I thought we were disciplined for the most part. Defense I thought really, really played their tails off. I thought they showed up, played championship-style defense that they had to put out a number of fires there between the takeaways and the fourth-down stops. But, it\u2019s also you have the hot hand and you have to beat them back one more time, and then offensively three-of-13 on third down and zero-for-five on fourth down, we could not convert. And when you can\u2019t convert, that makes it very difficult. Felt like we were\u00a0getting a rhythm\u00a0after that second quarter we started, we hit those explosives, went down Jameson Williams scores, touchdown, and it felt like, \u2018Alright, here we go.\u2019 But, just couldn\u2019t ever really get in a rhythm offensively. I mean, there\u2019s some calls I wish I could have gotten back. I didn\u2019t help those guys and I hate that. I didn\u2019t help them. But that was kind of the story of the game.<\/p>\n

No, they really didn\u2019t do anything different. I mean, like what (Vic) Fangio does is he mixed his calls and he\u2019s got a few that he rolls through and he does a good job of variety there, but yet I wouldn\u2019t say it was anything exotic or anything we haven\u2019t seen or talked about. We were just a little off. I mean, it really was kind of one of those days. I hate saying that, but it was just a little bit of one of those days and I mean it\u2019s a rarity that (Jared) Goff and (Amon-Ra) St. Brown don\u2019t connect more than that. That\u2019s just a rare thing because those guys have such a good connection. But again, man, we\u2019re all involved in this. We all have a hand in it. For me, the coaches, all of us, man, everybody that\u2019s part of this offense, we have to be better. Especially on a day like today when you\u2019re playing that kind of defense, that kind of team, the margin for error is so small, man. You don\u2019t have the luxury of \u2013 like, we get in the red zone, we have to\u00a0score a touchdown, man, we can\u2019t come away not scoring seven there. We have to convert at least two or three of those fourth downs. You have to, and we were a little off. We just couldn\u2019t get our rhythm there.<\/p>\n

Yeah, well, once we got down there, a couple of scores, that makes it a little more difficult, but certainly try to max-protect a little bit more, that can help. Now you don\u2019t get as many guys out, but that\u2019s one way to do it. We just, there again, we just couldn\u2019t get going.<\/p>\n

Yeah, well, I thought he played defense like he did the whole game, man. I thought he challenged and played it like he did the\u00a0very first rep\u00a0that we played man-to-man. So I wouldn\u2019t tell him to do anything different, man, get up there and challenge. Play your style and that\u2019s it.<\/p>\n

Yeah, well look, we know the type of team we just faced. A good team and we had our chances. We didn\u2019t get it done. They made the most of the opportunity. We didn\u2019t. But we\u2019re right there and we understand what it is and we understand we make one or two more plays in certain areas, then you have the legit shot to win that game at the end. So as bad as it stings, as bad as it is, we\u2019re so freaking close. And I mentioned this before, you just kind of hit some of these patches here. We\u2019re middle way through the season, we\u2019re in November and I believe this is the best thing for us. You don\u2019t want to say that and it doesn\u2019t feel good, but yet, we\u2019re going to learn from this. We\u2019re going to get better. We\u2019re going to adjust. And we will be hitting our stride when other teams start to hit their adversity towards the back end of the season.\u00a0I really believe that. So, we\u2019re going to learn from this game and we\u2019re going to get better.<\/p>\n

Yeah, I just believed that we were going to \u2013 I thought we could get those guys off balance and obviously that didn\u2019t happen. I felt like the look was there to move them and they did a good job. They were ready. They were ready.<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t feel like \u2013 we had a little bit of wind, but I really didn\u2019t feel like that it was something abnormal that we were in frigid temperatures or so I really didn\u2019t believe that that was it. I don\u2019t feel that way.<\/p>\n

No. I mean there were a couple of things early in the game that I wanted to be smart with because look, there was a little bit of wind. But once we got going I wasn\u2019t even thinking about the wind. I felt like that wasn\u2019t going to be an issue.<\/p>\n

On whether he can chalk up some of what happened tonight to the Eagles having a great defense but also be concerned about his offensive line and his offense being overwhelmed:<\/p>\n

Well look, that is a good defense. We know that. But there\u2019s things that just like every game, that is a very good defense, but yet, man, we can play better. We can play better. I can call a better game. And there again, in this type of game, knowing what it is, man, we\u2019re talking about one, two, maybe three plays is the difference. And we\u2019re sitting up here and we just won the game and it\u2019s like, \u2018Whoa, man, that was a hell of a win. You guys stuck it out.\u2019 We just didn\u2019t make those plays and so I really believe that\u2019s not going to be the norm, what happened today, I don\u2019t believe that\u2019s the norm. We could not quite convert. We were\u00a0a little bit off\u00a0and I don\u2019t believe that that\u2019s going to be here to stay. We\u2019re going to clean up a few things. We\u2019re going to find our rhythm and we\u2019re all going to be better for it.<\/p>\n

Yeah, I told him it was a hell of a play. Don\u2019t do that again.<\/p>\n

Yeah. I thought about it, I was like, \u2018Maybe I\u2019ll just go ahead and bang that right now.\u2019 But I knew we were getting it after halftime and really what I did, I just kind of waited. I was going to wait until we hit about under a minute and then at that point I just kind of let it go like, \u2018Alright, we\u2019ll get it back.\u2019 So absolutely, I talked about it, thought about it, and I just chose not to there. I said, \u2018We will take it in the third quarter when we come out at halftime.\u2019 So yeah, I did think about it.<\/p>\n

Yeah, you take it one game at a time. You really do. We got the Giants this week, so we got to rebound, clean a couple of things up, go back to work, and get a [win]. I\u2019ve mentioned this before, but everybody\u2019s playing everybody now. This is what\u2019s going to happen over the next couple of months here is all these teams\u00a0we\u2019re bunched in\u00a0with begin to play each other. Division games, NFC Conference games, and so that\u2019ll all handle itself. You just worry about your own business. We\u2019re going to worry about us one game at a time.<\/p>\n

Yeah, we got guys that play with leverage. They\u2019re strong, they\u2019re stout (DJ) Reader and (Roy) Lopez and Alim McNeill, we\u2019ve got some tree trunks in there. They know how to grow roots and anchor in there and that\u2019s where it always is going to start. So I thought the guys handled it well, did a great job, and it really, it paid dividends today. It gave us a chance.<\/p>\n

Well, obviously enough to where we are talking about four weeks here. So, obviously we\u2019re going to hope that this thing calms down and after those four games we can get him back. But we\u2019re really just taking this day-by-day, week-by-week. I\u2019m hopeful, but I really don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n

No, and I told the team that. There\u2019s some things I wish I would\u2019ve done differently. Look, the bottom line is you obviously, if you go totally conservative in the way this game played out and the way it was, you got a better chance of\u00a0winning that game\u00a0than some of those decisions I made. I understand that, but also that\u2019s who we are. It\u2019s who I am and it bit us today.<\/p>\n
