Kirill Kaprizov scored the winning goal with 9.7 seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Minnesota Wild to a 3-2 win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday evening in Saint Paul, Minn.<\/p>\n
Mats Zuccarello set up the game-winner and finished with two assists for Minnesota, which won for the fourth time in its past five games. Joel Eriksson Ek and Yakov Trenin added one goal apiece.<\/p>\n
Pavel Dorofeyev and Reilly Smith each scored a goal for Vegas, which finished with one win and one loss on its two-game road trip. Mitch Marner was among four players to tally an assist.<\/p>\n
Kaprizov notched the decisive goal on a hard-angle shot from the right side of the crease. Zuccarello spotted him open and fired a hard pass in his direction, and Kaprizov did the rest with a hard, low shot.<\/p>\n
The play sealed a victory for Wild goaltender Filip Gustavsson, who stopped 23 of 25 shots.<\/p>\n
Golden Knights goaltender Carl Lindbom turned aside 24 of 27 shots.<\/p>\n
Minnesota opened the scoring 4:49 into the first period. Zuccarello turned down a shot and instead zipped a cross-ice pass to Eriksson Ek, who guided a one-timer into the net from the left circle.<\/p>\n
Eriksson Ek immediately pointed toward Zuccarello as a thank you for setting him up for the goal.<\/p>\n
Vegas evened the score at one-all on a power-play goal with 4:46 remaining in the first period. Dorofeyev punched in a rebound for his 11th goal, seven of which have come on the man advantage.<\/p>\n
The Wild regained a 2-1 lead on Trenin’s first goal of the season with 10:55 to play in the second period. He pushed a puck toward the crease, and it deflected off a Vegas defender and into the net.<\/p>\n
The Golden Knights fought back with another power-play goal to even the score at two-all. Smith fired a pinpoint wrist shot from the top of the left circle past Gustavsson’s glove side.<\/p>\n
There\u2019s no place like road.<\/p>\n
Coming off their latest uninspired effort at home, the Rangers (10-8-2) \u2014 who have won just one of nine games this season at Madison Square Garden \u2014 return to the cozy confines of hotel rooms and charter flights, carrying a six-game road win streak into a three-game western swing, beginning Tuesday in Las Vegas (8-4-6), then following with visits to Colorado (13-1-5) and Utah (10-7-1).<\/p>\n
On paper, the slate gives off the appearance of one of the season\u2019s tougher weeks, but logic isn\u2019t welcome in any locker room occupied by the Rangers, who sport the league\u2019s worst mark at home and the league\u2019s best record on the road (9-1-1).<\/p>\n

We were dead last in the league. We were talking amongst ourselves \u2014 not only from a coaching standpoint but talking with the players \u2014 and there was a high level of frustration from the players\u2019 standpoint because they felt like we were doing a lot of good things. To the eye test, our power play looked good, but we just weren\u2019t scoring goals.<\/p>\n \u201cNow we\u2019re getting goals \u2014 I\u2019m not saying we don\u2019t look good at times \u2014 but we haven\u2019t been as consistent on it. When we create chances and when we score, there\u2019s a pace and a tempo to our game. We have a little bit of a 5-on-5 mentality, and when we\u2019ve been generating offense and scoring goals on the power play, that\u2019s what our approach has been. We\u2019re taking advantage of the chances we\u2019re getting and that\u2019s the biggest thing.\u201d<\/p>\n Quinn, the former Rangers head coach (2018-21), and assistant coach Joe Sacco, could split the lead duties again in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n Sullivan was a late scratch on Sunday due to a family matter and it is unclear when he will rejoin the team.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s different,\u201d Fox said of the dynamic without Sullivan. \u201cI don\u2019t think we\u2019re gonna use that as an excuse. We\u2019re gonna hope for the best with him.
