The New York\u00a0Rangers\u00a0faltered down the stretch, losing 2-1 to the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday night, which snapped a three-game winning streak.\u00a0<\/p>\n
On Sunday morning, the Rangers sent down Gabe Perreault to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League after just a three-game stint.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Despite being given an opportunity to play a top-six role, we did not quite see Perreault\u2019s offensive explosiveness on display, with the pace of play simply moving too fast for the young rookie.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Rangers brass felt it was best for him to continue to develop in the AHL.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s got an awful lot of talent and he\u2019s got a bright future in this league, but this is a man\u2019s league,\u201d David Quinn said. \u201cGabe did some good things when he was up here, but when Gabe is here, he plays on the top two lines, and when you play against the top two lines, you play against everybody’s top D pairings, and you play against everybody’s best players, and that can get a little overwhelming for you, physically and with the pace.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe just felt like this was part of the growing process and the development process for him, give him an opportunity to come here, play meaningful games. Now, he\u2019s going back down and I\u2019m sure this experience will be beneficial to his development.\u201d<\/p>\n
It was announced prior to the game that Mike Sullivan would not be behind the bench tonight, with David Quinn and Joe Sacco splitting the head coaching responsibilities.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Throughout the season, Quinn has helped manage the defensemen, while Sacco has assisted Sullivan with the offensive lines.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Despite both taking on the role of head coach, Quinn continued to manage the defense, and Sacco took care of the offensive gameplan.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was very simple for Joe and I because I’ve been managing the D all year, and Joe has been helping Mike with the lines,\u201d Quinn said of what went into the dual head-coaching strategy. \u201cI managed the D and Joe called the line changes. There really wasn\u2019t a lot of change to it. It was a pretty seamless situation for both of us and the players.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Rangers played a relatively steady game throughout the first two periods although they were outshot 29-16.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mika Zibanejad scored on the power play in the second period, marking the team\u2019s fifth power-play goal in six games, as the Rangers have been red hot on the man advantage since elevating Will Cuylle to the first unit.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In the third period, the Blueshirts\u2019 game seemed to completely unravel. The tone of the third period was set with two consecutive penalties.<\/p>\n
The Rangers were undisciplined all night, committing a total of six penalties throughout the contest.<\/p>\n
The Red Wings dominated time of possession in the final frame, clearly shown by the 14-3 shot differential in favor of Detroit.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Jonathan Quick stood on his head and gave the Rangers a puncher’s chance to win with his 40 saves, but New York\u2019s lackluster play in the final frame ultimately caught up to them in the form of a Lucas Raymond game-winning goal.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously, Quickie was unbelievable tonight,\u201d Quinn said. \u201cHe made some huge saves\u2026 I thought we got away from it, that we were inconsistent with our purpose. I thought we fueled an awful lot of their offense too often. That’s a team that thrives on the rush. If you manage the puck against them, you get a chance, and if you don’t, you’re gonna pay for it. It looked like we might be able to steal a point there as the game was evolving, but we weren’t able to get it done.\u201d<\/p>\n
The game ended with both benches clearing in what turned out to be a big scrum involving every player.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mason Appleton shot the puck into the empty net after the final horn sounded, and an upset Quick went to confront him, causing other players to get involved. Quick explained the root of his frustrations.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYou guys all saw it,\u201d Quick said. \u201cThe horn goes, a couple seconds (pass), (Appleton) shoots it in the net. I don\u2019t know why they were surprised. That\u2019s usually the response when something like that happens.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Quinn addressed the media in place of Sullivan. He was asked about the possible longevity of Sullivan\u2019s absence, but Quinn didn\u2019t delve into detail.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI don’t have an update right now, obviously, from the coaches to the players of the organization, we certainly are thinking about Mike and his family, and never an easy situation,\u201d Quinn said. \u201cAttending family, that\u2019s all I can give you right now.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Rangers will be back in action on Tuesday night against the Vegas Golden Knights.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Josh Jacobs suffered a knee injury in Packers vs. Giants.<\/p>\n
Josh Jacobs watched on as Matt LaFleur and the\u00a0Green Bay Packers\u00a0ended their two-game drought in Week 11, jumping to 6-3-1 on the 2025\u00a0NFL\u00a0season after a 27-20 win over Jameis Winston and the\u00a0New York Giants. Now, the Packers will turn their focus to an important NFC North matchup in Week 12, returning to Lambeau Field to host the\u00a0Minnesota Vikings.<\/p>\n
Jacobs was off to a solid start against the Giants, tallying seven carries for 40 yards. However, the former\u00a0Alabama Crimson Tide running back was forced to leave the game in the first half due to a knee injury, leaving him out for the remainder of the game.<\/p>\n
While there was concern that Jacobs\u2019 injury could be season-ending,\u00a0further tests\u00a0showed his knee was \u201cstructurally sound\u201d and did not require surgery, ruling it a knee contusion. That left the Packers running back day-to-day, with his status still uncertain for the matchup against the Vikings.<\/p>\n
But on Monday, LaFleur did not rule out Jacobs for Week 12 against the NFC North rival, adding that Green Bay is unlikely to place him on injured reserve, a move that would sideline him for at least four games.<\/p>\n
\u201cPackers HC Matt LaFleur told reporters that RB Josh Jacobs \u2018potentially\u2019 could be available to play Sunday vs. the Vikings despite his knee contusion, but Green Bay has no plans to place its star running back on injured reserve,\u201d ESPN\u2019s Adam Schefter wrote on X.<\/p>\n
Losing a player like Jacobs would certainly be a blow for the Packers. He has led the team in touchdowns in both of his seasons in Green Bay, including 15 in 2024 and 11 so far this year.
