Every history book tells you about kings, queens, wars, and revolutions.

Yawn.

But what they don’t tell you about are the weirdos, wanderers, and time-bending enigmas who seem to have stepped straight out of a fever dream and into the footnotes of history.

These seven mysterious people weren’t just forgotten — it’s like history actively tried to delete them, and honestly, we can see why.

Between alleged immortals, interdimensional travelers, green-skinned aliens (or possibly just vitamin-deficient peasants), and one suspiciously teleporting soldier, this list has everything your high school textbook left out.

So buckle up, because you’re about to meet seven people so bizarre that even Google struggles to explain them — and that’s saying something.

Let’s kick it off with the Count of St. Germain, a man who apparently missed the memo that human beings are supposed to die.

He appeared in the 1700s as a wealthy European aristocrat who spoke every language, painted like da Vinci, composed music like Mozart, and — most importantly — didn’t age.

No one knew where he came from, and whenever someone asked his age, he’d drop cryptic one-liners like “I am older than you think. ”

Relatable, right? Eyewitnesses swore they saw him decades later looking exactly the same.

One royal court rumor claimed he was actually Jesus, another said he was a vampire.

“The guy was basically the original influencer,” says fake historian Dr.

Bella Ravencroft.

“Mysterious, unattainable, and probably selling anti-aging elixirs in crystal bottles. ”

If the Count were alive today, he’d 100% have a wellness brand and a podcast called Timeless Vibes.

Next on the list, we’ve got the Green Children of Woolpit, the medieval alien siblings who put Shrek to shame.

One day in 12th-century England, two kids with bright green skin wandered into a village speaking an unknown language and wearing strange clothes.

The locals did what medieval people do best — panicked.

The kids refused to eat anything except raw beans (mood) and said they came from a sunless underground world called “St.

Martin’s Land.

” Of course, skeptics claim it was just a case of malnutrition and bad lighting, but let’s be real: if two neon-green children appeared out of nowhere today, Reddit would have at least a thousand theories within the hour.

“They were probably early Martian exchange students,” jokes Dr. Ravencroft.

“Or maybe they just couldn’t find SPF in 1100 AD. ”

Then there’s Kaspar Hauser, a boy who literally materialized in Germany in 1828 with no clue who he was or where he came from.

He could barely speak, couldn’t read, and carried a letter saying he’d been raised in isolation.

Naturally, this made him the hottest mystery in Europe.

Was he a lost prince? A government experiment? An early clone? Nobody knew.

Then, just when people started getting answers, Kaspar was stabbed under mysterious circumstances — some say by a stranger, others think by himself to keep the mystery alive.

Either way, it worked.

Nearly 200 years later, people are still arguing about him.

“He was the original reality TV star,” says pop culture analyst Travis Beam.

“He had drama, mystery, trauma — all he was missing was a confessional interview segment. ”

Let’s take a trip to the creepy side of France for the Man in the Iron Mask, the mysterious prisoner whose face was literally locked behind metal for years by order of the king.

Nobody knew who he was, and everyone from Voltaire to Hollywood took a crack at guessing.

Some said he was Louis XIV’s twin brother.

Others swore he was a political prisoner, a nobleman, or an unlucky guy with really bad acne.

Even now, his identity remains one of France’s favorite unsolved riddles.

“The government went to a lot of trouble to hide his face,” says Dr. Ravencroft.

“Which makes you wonder — was he a threat, or just ugly?” Either way, the guy’s mystique outlived the monarchy.

These days, he’s remembered as the ultimate symbol of secrets and silenced voices… or possibly just bad skincare.

Next up: Gil Pérez, the 16th-century soldier who somehow managed to pull off intercontinental travel without a plane, a ship, or even a map.

In 1593, Pérez was guarding the Governor’s Palace in Manila one minute — and the next, he was standing in Mexico City, over 8,000 miles away.

When questioned by officials, he swore he had no idea how he got there and that the governor had been killed the previous day — news that hadn’t even reached Mexico yet.

When word finally arrived months later, it turned out he was right.

Was it teleportation? A glitch in the matrix? A historical version of “I don’t remember how I got here”? “Gil Pérez is the patron saint of people who wake up confused,” says paranormal researcher Dr. Hugo Martín.

“And honestly, same. ”

If that’s not weird enough, let’s revisit the Dancing Plague of 1518 — the world’s deadliest dance party.

It started when one woman, Frau Troffea, began dancing uncontrollably in the streets of Strasbourg.

No music, no festival — just pure cardio.

Within days, hundreds joined her, and they couldn’t stop.

People danced until they collapsed, some even dying from exhaustion.

Historians still have no idea what caused it.

Ergot poisoning? Mass hysteria? A cursed medieval playlist? “She was basically the world’s first viral influencer,” quips Dr. Ravencroft.

“Except instead of a dance challenge, she started a full-blown apocalypse rave. ”

Authorities at the time tried to solve the problem by hiring musicians to play — which, shockingly, made it worse.

You can’t make this stuff up.

And finally, we arrive at The Babushka Lady, the mysterious woman caught on camera during one of the most infamous events in modern history — the assassination of President John F.

Kennedy.

She was seen calmly filming the chaos, wearing a headscarf, and completely unfazed by gunfire.

The footage she captured could have held key evidence, but here’s the kicker: neither she nor her film was ever found.

The FBI, conspiracy theorists, and true-crime YouTubers have been obsessed ever since.

Was she a spy? An alien observer? Or just a tourist with nerves of steel? “The fact that she vanished without a trace is honestly the most JFK thing ever,” says Travis Beam.

“It’s like history saw her and went, ‘Nope, too mysterious, delete. ’”

These seven people — and the chaos surrounding them — are a reminder that history isn’t just dates and dusty scrolls.

It’s full of strange stories that make no sense, refuse to die, and probably deserve their own Netflix docuseries.

In fact, rumor has it one’s already in development: Forgotten Freaks: The Secrets History Tried to Hide, featuring reenactments, ominous violin music, and experts staring dramatically into the camera saying, “We may never know the truth. ”

But here’s where things get really fun: modern internet sleuths have resurrected these mysteries like historical necromancers.

TikTok users have turned the Count of St. Germain into a thirst trap.

Reddit threads are arguing about whether Kaspar Hauser was an early AI experiment.

And YouTube channels with names like “TruthLeaks247” are convinced the Babushka Lady was part of a time-traveling surveillance team.

“There’s a weird comfort in these stories,” says Dr.

Ravencroft.

“It’s proof that even centuries ago, people were just as confused as we are now. ”

And honestly? That’s what makes these figures so timeless.

They represent our favorite human pastime — obsessing over mysteries we’ll never solve.

Every era has its unsolved weirdness.

The Count of St. Germain is just the 1700s version of “who’s behind that viral faceless TikTok account. ”

The Green Children are the medieval “Men in Black. ”

Kaspar Hauser was basically the original amnesiac action movie protagonist, and Gil Pérez? He’s every employee who shows up to work saying, “I have no idea how I got here. ”

So the next time you find yourself doom-scrolling through conspiracy videos, remember — history got there first.

Humans have always loved a good mystery, especially when it involves possibly immortal vampires, alien toddlers, or teleporting guards.

These seven strange figures are proof that no matter how far we advance, we’re still fascinated by the same thing: the unknown.

And maybe, just maybe, that’s why their stories keep coming back.

Maybe they were real.

Maybe they were hoaxes.

Or maybe — and here’s the plot twist no one sees coming — they still walk among us.

The Count of St. Germain buying cold brew in Paris.

Frau Troffea DJing underground raves in Berlin.

The Babushka Lady quietly filming world events on her iPhone.

Because let’s face it — mystery never dies.

It just updates its Instagram bio.
