On Thursday evening,\u00a0the New England Patriots continued\u00a0their winning ways with a comfortable 27-14 home win over the New York Jets in prime time. It was another decent game\u00a0from quarterback Drake Maye, who completed 25 of his 34 pass attempts, good for 281 yards and a touchdown.<\/p>\n
After the game, former NFL quarterback\u00a0Robert Griffin III\u00a0took to X, formerly Twitter,\u00a0with high praise\u00a0for the rising star.<\/p>\n
\u201cDrake Maye and the New England Patriots are playing efficient winning football. Drake Maye has been the breakout QB of the year and it\u2019s not even close. Mike Vrabel brought an identity and Drake is thriving leading a team with fire and desire. His potential is being realized,\u201d wrote Griffin.<\/p>\n
Indeed, Maye has been playing at an elite level throughout much of this season and has even garnered some fringe speculation that he could appear on some MVP ballots later on this year.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Patriots recently silenced some of their doubt about their remarkably weak strength of schedule with a road win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and will now go back to playing league cellar dwellers for the next few weeks, starting with Thursday’s win over New York.<\/p>\n
The Patriots still have a decent chance of securing not only the AFC East crown, but the number one overall seed in the conference as a whole, and the play of Maye is a big part of the reason why.<\/p>\n
The Patriots will next take the field next Sunday on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals.<\/p>\n
After an embarrassing loss at Super Bowl LIX, the 2025 regular season was supposed to be one of redemption and vengeance for Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. Instead, the only thing that anyone seems to be talking about through the first month of the season is how the star tight end shoulder checked Xavier Worthy in Week 1 before he quite literally presented the Philadelphia Eagles with the ball in Week 2.<\/p>\n
Even though they were finally able to find a win in Week 3, their performance against the New York Giants was anything but convincing, especially when you consider their missed touchdown opportunity. Nevertheless, Mahomes is continuing to shoulder the blame, as any QB1 should.<\/p>\n
\u201cI got greedy and was trying to throw the ball down the field instead of just getting the football to him earlier<\/em>,\u201d Mahomes explained in reference to Kelce\u2019s dropped touchdown pass. Despite his recent struggles, Mahomes\u00a0has remained\u00a0adamant about\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI think he\u2019s done a great job this year at getting open and making stuff happen. For me, it\u2019s just about getting the football to him and giving him more opportunities. As I watch film, he\u2019s getting more open than even the opportunities that I\u2019m giving him. Just trusting him that he\u2019s going to make the plays happen and I\u2019m sure, as the season goes on, he\u2019s going to continue to make big plays<\/p>\n<\/p>\n\n
