An intense day of emergency is underway in Asia following a\u00a0violent 7.7 magnitude earthquake that shook vast regions of\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/strong>Myanmar, southern China and northern Thailand<\/strong>\u00a0early Monday morning\u00a0, leaving a preliminary toll of\u00a0dozens dead, hundreds injured and numerous people trapped<\/strong>\u00a0under the rubble.<\/p>\n

The quake struck at\u00a03:42 a.m. local time<\/p>\n

<\/strong>\u00a0, with its epicenter in a mountainous area on the border between\u00a0Myanmar<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Yunnan Province, China<\/strong>\u00a0, at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers, according to data from the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The quake was also strongly felt in the cities of\u00a0<\/p>\n

Myanmar<\/strong>\u00a0, the worst-hit country so far, has declared a state of emergency in several regions after reporting\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe heard a loud noise, and suddenly everything started shaking. The walls cracked, the ground moved like waves,\u201d said\u00a0Myo Thant<\/strong>\u00a0, a resident of the affected area, who managed to escape with his family before their home collapsed.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0China<\/strong>\u00a0, authorities in\u00a0Yunnan<\/strong>\u00a0province confirmed at least\u00a012 deaths and more than 100 injuries<\/strong> , as well as the collapse of key infrastructure such as bridges, schools, and hospitals. Chinese authorities have deployed troops and search and rescue teams, activated their seismic alert system, and evacuated thousands of people from high-risk areas.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0Thailand<\/strong>\u00a0, although no fatalities have been reported so far, significant structural damage has occurred to ancient temples and historic buildings. Thai authorities have suspended classes in schools in Chiang Rai and are keeping hospitals on alert for possible aftershocks.<\/p>\n

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center initially issued a precautionary warning for nearby coasts, which was lifted hours later after no abnormalities in sea level were detected. However, experts do not rule out significant aftershocks in the coming hours.<\/p>\n

International organizations such as the\u00a0UN and the International Red Cross<\/strong>\u00a0have already begun coordinating humanitarian aid efforts to assist the victims. The international community has expressed its solidarity with the affected countries, and the shipment of rescue teams, food, and medicine is expected.<\/p>\n

Longtime Fox News anchor\u00a0John Roberts<\/strong> is currently fighting one of the deadliest mosquito-borne diseases in the world \u2014 malaria.<\/p>\n

The 68-year-old revealed to PEOPLE Magazine that the illness hit him suddenly and hard. \u201cI had been hurting from the top of my head to the tip of my toes. I was also beset with uncontrolled shivering all during my show,\u201d Roberts said. \u201cI have never felt that sick in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Doctors confirmed the diagnosis after Roberts\u2019 blood work showed low platelets and white blood cell counts. He was immediately sent to the ER where he received IV artesunate, a treatment used for severe malaria in the United States.<\/p>\n

Roberts believes he contracted the disease during a two-week vacation in Indonesia earlier this month. The symptoms appeared about ten days after his return.
