The images are from two different events, are not current, and are from different countries.<\/p>\n \u201cNational mourning has just occurred, a massive accident [\u00a0\u00a0sic<\/em>\u00a0] has left 34 dead\u2026\u201d is all that the text accompanying the photos says. In the top image, you can see what appears to be a yellow bus crushed by a truck, with firefighters working at the scene surrounded by people. In the photo below, several people watch a burning bus that is crossed in the middle of a multi-lane highway.<\/p>\n The first comment leaves a link that, in theory, leads to a video with more details about the accident. But in reality,\u00a0\u00a0it leads to a website\u00a0\u00a0that talks about a supposed weight-loss remedy.<\/p>\n A\u00a0\u00a0reverse image search on Yandex\u00a0\u00a0of the photo of the yellow bus reveals that the crash actually occurred in Honduras in February 2017, more than seven years ago.\u00a0\u00a0Fox News\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0covered the incident, which left 15 dead\u00a0, and the caption of the photo illustrating the story, which is of the same incident but taken from a different angle, provides the name of the person who took it: Fernando Antonio, for the American news agency\u00a0\u00a0AP<\/em>\u00a0.<\/p>\n A search of the photo section of that media outlet\u00a0\u00a0found the photograph used in the post\u00a0\u00a0circulating on social media to announce the alleged accident that \u201cjust occurred.\u201d The description reads: \u201cEmergency personnel responded to an accident involving a cargo truck and a bus on the outskirts of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, on Sunday, February 5, 2017.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe cargo truck crashed into the bus on the highway outside the Honduran capital on Sunday, killing more than a dozen people, authorities said,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n As for the second image, which shows a burning bus, a\u00a0\u00a0reverse image search on Google Lens\u00a0\u00a0returns\u00a0\u00a0several\u00a0\u00a0posts\u00a0\u00a0that place the photo on the outskirts of Caracas, Venezuela\u2019s capital, in mid-December 2023. That\u2019s eight months ago. According to reports,\u00a0\u00a0at least 30 people died\u00a0.<\/p>\n While the Facebook post doesn\u2019t specify where the incident occurred, it\u2019s logical that the \u201cmassive accident that left 34\u201d dead would be the same.<\/p>\n As for the link that supposedly leads to the video showing the accident,\u00a0\u00a0it opens a website\u00a0\u00a0that offers a supposed weight-loss remedy.<\/p>\n At\u00a0\u00a0elDetector,\u00a0<\/strong>we\u00a0\u00a0\u2018ve verified posts that\u00a0\u00a0falsely\u00a0\u00a0reported\u00a0\u00a0accidents\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and directed readers to click on a link that would take them to the full information, but instead directed them to an unrelated website. These visits can be converted into revenue.<\/p>\n It\u2019s\u00a0\u00a0false<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0that the two photographs shared together, which show two traffic accidents, are from the same incident that \u201cjust happened\u201d and left 34 dead, as one social media post claims.
