Toronto Maple Leafs\u2019 defenseman Chris Tanev has been placed on long-term injured reserve, according to a report from\u00a0Pu<\/em>ckPedia<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Tanev has been\u00a0out since Nov. 1\u00a0when he was injured during the Leafs\u2019 matchup against the\u00a0Philadelphia Flyers. After a collision with Flyers\u2019 forward Matvei Michkov, the Toronto blueliner stayed down after the impact and received medical attention before being placed on the stretcher. He was able to flash a thumbs-up signal to the crowd on his way out.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The following day, Tanev was\u00a0released from hospital and placed on injured reserve.<\/p>\n

It was Tanev\u2019s first game back since suffering an upper-body injury during\u00a0Toronto\u2019s Oct. 21 game\u00a0against the\u00a0New Jersey Devils. He would be placed on\u00a0injured reserve.<\/p>\n

Through his first eight games of the 2025-26 season, Tanev, 35, has two assists and a plus-five rating while averaging 17:20 of ice time. Now in his second season with the club, the blueliner was acquired by Toronto from the Dallas Stars at the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, then signed a six-year, $27 million contract that will pay him an annual average value (AAV) of $4.5 million through the 2029-30 season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Through 16 NHL seasons, Tanev, a native of Toronto, has 36 goals and 174 assists for 210 points, averaging 19:56 of ice time in 875 career regular-season games with the Maple Leafs, Stars, Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Leafs are 8-9-2 with 18 points, seventh in the Atlantic Division. William Nylander leads the team with 26 points, including eight goals and 18 assists. As for John Tavares, he has 11 goals and 13 assists for 24 points, while Morgan Rielly leads the blue line with 15 points in 17 games.<\/p>\n

The Sabres need to show resilience, consistency, and the ability to string together five- and six-game win streaks<\/strong> if they\u2019re going to remain in playoff contention. One or two big wins isn\u2019t going to be enough. <\/p>\n
