Like mother, like daughter because,\u00a0Angel Bryant\u00a0can now count herself as an Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority sister.\u00a0The Real Housewives of Potomac<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>cast member\u00a0Gizelle Bryant\u00a0shared the news in an Instagram post on Nov. 17<\/p>\n

\u201cCONGRATULATIONS ANGEL who is now my SOROR,\u201d Gizelle stated with pink and green heart emojis. \u201cTears of joy and pride I have felt all day. LEGACY! Welcome to the beautiful pink and green world of Alpha Kappa Alpha.\u201d<\/p>\n

The mother of three shared photos of the sophomore at Spelman College, a\u00a0women\u2019s-only HBCU\u00a0(Historically Black Colleges and Universities) in Atlanta, Georgia. Angel jumped into the comment section to write, \u201cLove you mommy\u201d for Gizelle, a proud Alpha Kappa Alpha sister from\u00a0her days at Hampton University in Virginia.\u00a0Gizelle later shared a\u00a0video\u00a0from the big event, writing, “Legacy.”<\/p>\n

Angel, like her mother, now represents a sorority joined by some of the most influential Black women of the world, including Kamala Harris, Maya Angelou, and Rosa Parks.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Angel’s dad, Jamal Bryant, also celebrated the moment on\u00a0Instagram.\u00a0“Super proud of [Angel] becoming a member of [Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority] last night. She represents 3 generations of our family in D9,” he wrote. “The woman she is becoming is going to impact the world, influence a generation and inspire the community. Give it up for sweet 16!”<\/p>\n

Gizelle has always shared her love of the AKA sorority, even\u00a0returning to her alma mater in October\u00a0for a homecoming reunion. She represented Alpha Kappa Alpha alongside her fellow sisters, sporting the colors she has proudly worn since joining in 1990.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cCelebrating 35 YEARS of [AKA Sorority],\u201d\u00a0she wrote on Instagram with photos of Gizelle in her letter jacket. \u201cCome thru [Gamma Theta chapter], love my line sisters.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gizelle\u2019s twin daughters decided on heading to separate colleges to find their \u201cown identities,\u201d they said in\u00a0a 2024 exclusive interview\u00a0with\u00a0<\/p>\n

Although Angel once confessed to being \u201cnervous\u201d about being away from Adore for the first time, she explained she was excited by Spelman “because I wanted an HBCU experience.\u201d Furthermore, \u201cThe opportunities presented at this institution, I felt, were unmatched.”<\/p>\n

Angel, at the time of the 2024 interview, hoped to minor in Spanish.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, 21-year-old big sister,\u00a0Grace Bryant,\u00a0continues to thrive\u00a0as a junior studying public relations at\u00a0Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, an HBCU in Tallahassee, Florida.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a 2022\u00a0interview\u00a0on\u00a0The Breakfast Club<\/em>, Gizelle credited her late father,\u00a0Curtis Graves, for her decision to attend an HBCU, from which she graduated in 1992 with a degree in marketing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cMy dad went to a Black college (Texas Southern University), and he was nudging me in that direction. I didn’t know it, but he was,” she explained. “My dad was very influential in the Civil Rights movement. He’s all about empowering the Black community and doing what’s best for us. But when I got to [Hampton University], that’s when I figured out that I was where I was supposed to be \u2026 I realized, ‘OK, this is special, right? This is family. This is a community that cares for each other\u2026’ It was an experience I was grateful for.\u201d<\/p>\n

Witney Carson\u00a0won season 19 of\u00a0Dancing With the Stars<\/em>\u00a0over a decade ago, and it\u2019s safe to say she\u2019s ready for a second mirrorball.<\/p>\n

The professional dancer nabbed her first champion title alongside current co-host Alfonso Ribeiro. One year later, Witney competed on season 21 as Bindi Irwin entered the ballroom and won the show again alongside judge Derek Hough. Supporting her throughout the journey was her younger brother Robert Irwin, who was a only 11 years old when his sister earned her mirrorball trophy.<\/p>\n

Witney tells The Hollywood Reporter she \u201cnever in a million years\u201d thought she\u2019d be partnered up with the younger Irwin child when she first met him 10 years ago. \u201cIt never crossed my mind, but now that it\u2019s happened, it feels right,\u201d she explains.<\/p>\n

Long before she was partnered with the son of Steve Irwin, Witney established herself as a force in the ballroom. Despite having only one winning DWTS title to her name, she\u2019s made a name for herself as one of the show\u2019s most respected pros.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Below, Witney dishes on the secret behind her viral choreography, what it\u2019s like being a pro on the show while navigating motherhood, how Robert\u2019s dances on Tuesday night will pay homage to his mirrorball champion sister and what it would mean for her to earn her second DWTS win.<\/p>\n

Part of what triggered this new virality in the show was your leg lift with Danny [Amendola] last season [that started a huge TikTok trend]. You are known to choreograph standout moments. Where does this creativity you have as a choreographer come from?<\/p>\n

I think there\u2019s been a lot of factors that contribute to how popular the show is and on social media, but you never know what\u2019s going to take off. So each routine, each song calls for different moments. I always try and have some sort of a wow moment. In the routine, as I\u2019m listening to the music, [I think about] what makes it stand out? What makes the celebrity stand out? I\u2019m always trying to think of that wow moment.<\/p>\n

It happened to be that leg lift last season. Is it the routine as a whole? Are there tricks involved? Is it very emotional? As a choreographer, after many years on this show, [it\u2019s] trying to find ways to highlight the celebrity and make them look their very best, and also create a routine that\u2019s entertaining that has technique in it and that the judges are super engaged with and able to get good scores with. Every celebrity, routine and music is so different. It\u2019s something that I\u2019ve learned along the way in my many years on the show \u2014 just trying to find that right balance of entertainment and the right technique, and making sure that we stay authentically to that style.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been in the cards for Robert to appear on the show since Bindi made her appearance 10 years ago. When you first competed against Bindi and as conversations of him competing on the show one day began in the Dancing With the Stars universe, did you ever think you would be the pro partnered up with him?<\/p>\n

Never in a million years, and I\u2019ll tell you why \u2014 he was so little when he was there [during Bindi\u2019s time on the show] and I had just gotten engaged. Our age gap was very, very big, so that wasn\u2019t even something that came to my mind. Even when [it] was announced earlier in the year that he was going to be on the show, I still didn\u2019t think that we would be partnered together. It was honestly a true shock when he walked through the door when we first met [as partners], and that was my genuine reaction of just, like, Oh my gosh. Like, I have a Robert Irwin [as my partner.] I\u2019ve adored their family for years. I love Bindi, so it feels very full circle. From the second that he walked into the room for the start of the season, it just felt automatically right and meant to be. So now that it\u2019s happened, it feels right.<\/p>\n

With Bindi having won the show, Robert has big shoes to fill. But you also have big shoes to fill to train him to have just as good of a performance [as Bindi]. Do you and Robert feel any of that pressure to live up to Bindi\u2019s legacy on the show?<\/p>\n

Of course we feel that pressure. If there wasn\u2019t any pressure, then we wouldn\u2019t be\u00a0as good as we are. We really try and live up to our best potential knowing that there\u2019s inspiration. Bindi\u2019s been so lovely and nothing but supportive of everything that we do. She\u2019s so proud of her brother and how far he\u2019s come, and how hard he\u2019s worked. The amount of support from her and his family has been incredible. It really is a privilege to have that pressure, motivation and encouragement every single week, to keep trying to get better and better, get more creative, challenge ourselves. I love the pressure, and I love that we get to push ourselves every single week because of how great they were, but because of our standard as well \u2014 what we want to achieve.<\/p>\n

Tuesday night, couples are dancing to songs featured in past freestyle numbers. Robert is dancing to \u201cFootprints in the Sand,\u201d which was Bindi\u2019s freestyle song. Is Robert\u2019s Foxtrot going to pay tribute to Bindi\u2019s freestyle, or will it be its own number?<\/p>\n

[Binidi\u2019s number] was such a beautiful freestyle. I remember watching it backstage. I was in the finale that season, and everyone [was] in tears. It was so powerful and emotional. That part of it we want to bring, but it\u2019s Robert\u2019s story as well. Even though him and Bindi are from the same family, they both bring stories to tell and have different paths. This is a story that Robert really wants to share, and I don\u2019t think it would be complete without Bindi, because it was really just him and her and their mom for so long, supporting each other and continuing their dad\u2019s legacy. As a choreographer, I want to make sure we pay homage to that beautiful story and that beautiful emotion and how they told the story, but also make it our own and make it Robert\u2019s and make it his journey, too.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday night, Tom Bergeron\u2019s going to be back in the ballroom. Are you looking forward to his guest judge appearance and [DWTS] return?<\/p>\n

I am beyond thrilled for Tom\u2019s return to guest judge and just be back in the ballroom. He was honestly the heart of Dancing With the Stars, in my opinion. He brought so much life and humor. He\u2019s so smart, and he really, really cared about every contestant and every pro. He felt like our TV dad, taking care of the pros and the contestants. Obviously Alfonso is the new host now, so it wasn\u2019t much of a change for me when Tom left. They\u2019re both this representation of our dance dads, and to have him and his expertise and how long he\u2019s done the show \u2014 I mean, he really is an OG of the show; he knows so much. I\u2019m really excited to see him, and I can\u2019t wait to hear what he has to say.<\/p>\n

On social media, you recently shared that you\u2019ve been feeling mom guilt. How hard is it for you to juggle your career as a pro dancer on Dancing With the Stars with your home life when you are this deep into the season and have a shot at winning that mirrorball?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s\u00a0really<\/em>\u00a0hard to balance it all. I try to not have any negativity on social media. I wanted to give people an inside look at how hard we all work. It\u2019s all the pros \u2014 everyone puts their heart and soul into this show to make it so great every single week for America. I think sometimes people can get super critical, and it comes with the territory, but they forget that we\u2019re human. I just wanted to remind people, like, I\u2019m still a mom, I have feelings, I\u2019m doing my very best. All of my life, [in] anything that I do, I try and go 110 percent in, and right now I\u2019m not physically able to give everything 110 percent in my home life, and that\u2019s where the mom guilt comes in, because I usually am home most of the day. I\u2019m feeding them, I\u2019m putting them to sleep, I\u2019m doing most of the work. So when I\u2019m not with them, it very much feels unbalanced.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u2019s hard to realize that your priorities shift a little bit when you\u2019re in the show. I think for every pro, it\u2019s kind of the same feeling. As much as I feel that guilt, I know that I need to show myself some grace and be as nice to myself as possible, and be able to know that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity with Robert, and just to give it my all and to not have any regrets. I don\u2019t want to have any regrets when the show is done. I want to be able to say I put everything I had into it, and I can be with my family at the end of it. Luckily, I have the best support system at home. My husband is the best ever. He\u2019s always taking care of me. He\u2019s taking care of the kids and my mother in law is here, and family members have helped. I feel really lucky to have the support that I have at home, because without them, I wouldn\u2019t be able to do the show at all. I think it\u2019s important for other moms to hear too. Like, it\u2019s okay to take time for yourself and be able to pursue your career and not have that mom guilt. Like, just go and do that for yourself.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Outside of the show, you\u2019re also a businesswoman. You just launched your dance tutorial app Finesse. For those who don\u2019t know, can you explain the goal of the app?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The goal of the app is really to have accessible [dance] training for everybody. I was very fortunate growing up where I had amazing trainers, amazing coaches, and luckily, my parents were able to trade for dance lessons, because we couldn\u2019t really afford them. I think that dance is very expensive for most people, and it depends on where you live if you have good coaching. We wanted to have an option for people to learn how to dance in the comfort of their home, at a very affordable price [for] $10 a month, from somebody who really has spent their entire life dancing and teaching. That\u2019s where this idea came from, and it\u2019s been really well accepted. It\u2019s something that I\u2019m super passionate about. I\u2019ve put so much time and blood and sweat and tears into this, and so has Carson, my husband. We want to give back to the dance world that has given me so much. It\u2019s a way for beginners to learn from the very beginning. It\u2019s for advanced dancers, as well, to learn really unique and cool choreography to good music. We also have where you can learn trends that have been going around on social media. We have a \u201cMirror Me\u201d feature, where you can stand or dance side by side with me or other pros and be able to fine tune your dancing. It\u2019s a tool that we\u2019ve created for dancers [that is] very educational.<\/p>\n

The app features behind the scenes content with you and Robert, so when the show wraps, how will the app\u2019s content shift?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Right now, the behind the scenes is with Robert and I, and it\u2019s really taking us through backstage, how we\u2019re feeling and the ins and outs of the week. I think a lot of people don\u2019t realize that Robert really doesn\u2019t have any dance experience at all, so we\u2019re really going from zero to what you see on camera, and it takes a lot of time and a lot of work. Those have been really fun to film. I think as the season ends, we\u2019re working on this series called \u201cSkill Swap,\u201d where I actually swap a skill with a different celebrity or athlete, and they teach me their expertise and what they do. It\u2019s kind of a fun play, honestly, similar to Dancing With the Stars, taking them out of their comfort zone and learning how to dance, and taking me out of my comfort zone and learning what they love. We did one with Danny Amendola and with Jessi \u00a0[Ngatikaura] from Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. We\u2019re going to keep on that entertainment and BTS vibe, and just see where that goes.<\/p>\n

You have won\u00a0<\/strong>Dancing With the Stars<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0once with Alfonso, but you have made it to the finale quite a few times over the years. What would it mean for you to win your second mirrorball with Robert this year?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve become second place a lot of times. It would mean a lot. It would mean a lot in the regard that I really feel like Robert deserves it. And I\u2019m really not just saying that. I\u2019ve been second so many times that I\u2019m not okay with it by any means, but I just want it really bad for him. I know how hard he works, and I know his message that he wants to spread, and what he would do with that would be so much more important than a mirrorball. Like, just winning a mirrorball is incredible, but what his message is and what he\u2019s trying to really spread to the younger generation, his positivity and his joy and his passion for life, I think, is so much more important.
