The return of Captain James T. Kirk to\u00a0Star Trek<\/em><\/strong>‘s future has officially changed history, entrusting the resurrected legend to save the entire Federation. Now as an added bonus, IDW has revealed Kirk in all his glory, donning\u00a0a brand new Starfleet uniform that’s a perfect fit for William Shatner’s original 1966 TV series.<\/p>\n The new storylines and cover art coming to the\u00a0<\/p>\n The striking color scheme is just the first dramatic shift to notice, officially welcoming the\u00a0not-quite-cloned, not-quite-reanimated Captain Kirk\u00a0into the series’ new age of Starfleet. But as writers Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing previously explained, the new uniforms go much deeper than fans might asume:<\/p>\n Collin Kelly: “Inspired by the white uniforms from Search for Spock and some of the \u201cretro\u201d aesthetics of the original series, Adrian really wanted to lean in on something hyper clean, but still visually striking and unmistakably Star Trek–we think he hit it out of the park.”<\/p>\n Jackson Lanzing: “The uniforms are also loaded with meaning. We\u2019re also having quite a lot of fun with the colors – red command, yellow ops, blue science, and a particularly odd take on medical. Numbers of stripes have rank significance, even our combadge has a special detail. As longtime nerds for this particular thing, it\u2019s been really validating and fun to craft a whole new system for The Last Starship.”<\/p>\n Fans can witness the debut of Kirk’s new threads when\u00a0Star Trek: The Last Starship<\/em>\u00a0#5 arrives on February 18, 2026. A historic issue, for any fan familiar with\u00a0the strange reason William Shatner never wore the now-iconic red\u00a0command uniform in\u00a0<\/p>\n Before anyone assumes the uniform is related to the doomed fate of\u00a0Star Trek<\/em>‘s infamous ‘redshirts,’ the truth is actually much stranger. In the first preview images of\u00a0Captain Kirk officially waking up in\u00a0<\/p>\n The explanation is an intensely strange one, since\u00a0Captain Kirk’s original gold uniform was a total mistake, thanks to the material and lighting used in production of\u00a0Star Trek: The Original Series<\/p>\n <\/em>\u00a0(1966). Intended to be lime green in tone, the actual result was soon adopted as canon, leading other command officers of this era to also wear gold (seen in\u00a0Discovery<\/p>\n <\/em>,\u00a0Strange New Worlds<\/em>, etc.). Without official explanation, it seems red was ruled a better looking color following the film adaptations, becoming the now iconic mark of command crew from\u00a0<\/p>\n Come Issue #5 this February, that will finally change. Of course, what twists or turns lead to Kirk’s change of uniform, and what events bring him into the captain’s chair, remain a mystery. So even if\u00a0the return of Captain Kirk is controversial\u00a0to some, there’s no denying this story is one fans will need be watching closely.<\/p>\n Star Trek: The Last Starship\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>#1<\/strong> is available now from IDW Publishing.<\/p>\n The emotions on CBS\u2019\u00a0Fire Country<\/strong>\u00a0have been dialed up all season, and the newest twist took things to a whole new level.<\/p>\n After losing his father and watching Gabriela walk away, Bode now has to bid a tough\u00a0goodbye\u00a0to Audrey James, portrayed by\u00a0Leven Rambin<\/strong>. She has decided to transfer to a different fire station, and the timing couldn\u2019t be worse for him.<\/p>\n Audrey\u2019s exit came right on the heels of a high-pressure outburst at Station 42. Things went sideways after Manny discovered pills inside Bode\u2019s locker, something Audrey had already flagged.<\/p>\n The moment turned into a storm, with Bode snapping and calling her a \u201cnarc.\u201d He eventually apologized, but the damage didn\u2019t disappear.<\/p>\n Audrey also admitted how shaky her sobriety felt in Edgewater. Just holding those pills brought back a rush of temptation she didn\u2019t see coming. Leaving town had helped her get steady again, but being back made those old demons feel way too close.<\/p>\n In the end, Audrey chose to transfer to Station 58 because she needed to protect her own mental and emotional health. She made it clear to Bode that their bond wasn\u2019t broken; the town was.<\/p>\n She explained that being in the same place, at the same vulnerable moment, could pull them both down instead of helping either of them move forward.<\/p>\n Still, her goodbye didn\u2019t feel final. Right before leaving, Audrey told Bode to \u201cwin\u201d her again, making it obvious her feelings hadn\u2019t faded. The transfer gives her the distance she needs from her triggers, and gives both of them room to grow on their own before they cross paths again.<\/p>\n The episode also set the stage for Bode to finally take control of his fragile and awry life. After Audrey walked away, he flushed the last pill, which was the big sign that he was ready to take responsibility and stop running from his pain.<\/p>\n For now, Audrey\u2019s exit stings, but it doesn\u2019t seem to be the end of her story.
