CNN host Pamela Brown stopped Texas Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett in her tracks Wednesday after the congresswoman wrongly accused Republicans of redacting the name of one of Jeffrey Epstein\u2019s most well-known victims.<\/p>\n
During an appearance on \u201cThe Situation Room,\u201d Crockett suggested the GOP was shielding Donald Trump by hiding the name of Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein\u2019s accusers. But Brown quickly set the record straight \u2014 it was Democrats who made the redaction.<\/p>\n
\u201cHere\u2019s the email right here on your screen. She wrote a book, as you know, and she did not accuse him of any wrongdoing,\u201d Brown said. \u201cWhat do you make of that? And can you confirm that?\u201d<\/p>\n
Crockett dismissed the clarification. \u201cYeah, I don\u2019t know. Obviously, it\u2019s redacted who the victim is, so I won\u2019t necessarily take the Republicans\u2019 word on who it is that\u2019s redacted. And I don\u2019t know why they would necessarily redact someone\u2019s name who is deceased at this point,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut the Democrats did that,\u201d Brown shot back.<\/p>\n
Still, Crockett doubled down, claiming Republicans were trying to protect Trump by hiding the Epstein files.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I think that that\u2019s actually one of the things that we should talk about is that the president has tried to call this all a hoax. I don\u2019t think you have this many people dying around a hoax,\u201d she said. \u201cI don\u2019t think you have somebody trying to hide files around a hoax. We know that there\u2019s something there. We know that his own attorney general had to admit that he is in the files, but they are trying to hide stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n
Crockett continued, \u201cThe only reason that we have these emails is because we were able to get them from the estate, not because the Department of Justice was releasing information, not because Kash Patel was releasing information, even though they\u2019ve had subpoenas from the Oversight Committee for some time. Kash Patel continues to hold back information.\u201d<\/p>\n
Trump, meanwhile, said in July that if there was anything damning in the Epstein documents, the Biden administration would have made sure the public saw it. Despite holding the records for years, Biden\u2019s DOJ didn\u2019t release them either.<\/p>\n
Among the newly revealed materials was a 2011 email from Giuffre, who died by suicide in April at age 41. In it, she said Trump \u201cdidn\u2019t partake in sex with any of us but he flirted with me.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a 2015 exchange, anti-Trump author Michael Wolff appeared to advise Epstein on how to use Trump\u2019s denials for leverage. \u201cI think you should let him hang himself,\u201d Wolff wrote. \u201cIf he says he hasn\u2019t been on the plane or to the house, then that gives you a valuable P.R. and political currency.\u201d<\/p>\n
Trump later told reporters he cut ties with Epstein after the disgraced financier \u201cstole\u201d some of his staffers from Mar-a-Lago, allegedly including Giuffre.<\/p>\n
Epstein\u2019s longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell backed up Trump\u2019s account during a July 24 deposition, calling him \u201ca gentleman in all respects\u201d and saying she never saw him act inappropriately.<\/p>\n

Fraudsters are exploiting the system, and it\u2019s the people who need these services that are paying the price.\u201d<\/p>\n
