A quick glance at history makes one thing obvious: real tyrants don\u2019t tolerate free speech \u2014 and they certainly don\u2019t provide public permits, police escorts, and media coverage for protests calling them tyrants.<\/p>\n
You can\u2019t expect intellectual consistency from these people \u2014 that would require actual thought. But now, the tantrums of the \u201cNo Kings\u201d crowd have some Democrat senators sweating over the Schumer Shutdown. And what are they worried about? Not Republicans, not the average American who just wants the government open \u2014 but\u00a0their own unhinged far-left base:<\/p>\n
Grassroots Democrats frustrated with the Trump administration have been demanding a fight, and on Saturday millions showed up at \u201cNo Kings\u201d demonstrations across the country to protest the president\u2019s government.<\/p>\n
In that context, Democrats know they will get hit hard by a number of voices on the left if they do not get something for opening the government.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople are going to get hammered\u201d if they vote for the House-passed bill to reopen the government and keep it funded through Nov. 21, said one Democratic senator who requested anonymity to talk candidly about their party.<\/p>\n
The schadenfreude is hard to miss. When you make a deal with the radical left, you don\u2019t get to control the outcome \u2014 and Democrats are finding that out the hard way. As a party, they chose to embrace the fringe, and now they\u2019re choking on the consequences.<\/p>\n
And if they keep letting the far-left call the shots \u2013 which elected Democrats seem content to do \u2013 those consequences could grow to include something even more devastating\u2026political extinction:<\/p>\n
A second person familiar with the political dynamics within the Senate Democratic caucus, who spoke with The Hill ahead of the \u201cNo Kings\u201d protests, said centrist senators are fearful of breaking with leaders while party activists are planning the anti-Trump rallies.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe would have enough votes\u201d to reopen the government \u201cif people were not terrified of getting the guillotine,\u201d the second person said.<\/p>\n
There\u2019s also this: The shutdown is hurting\u00a0Democrats\u00a0and\u00a0not President Trump:<\/p>\n
And who steps in to replace these political cowards? The Democrats currently trembling in their cushy seats, terrified of being ousted for not showing enough hatred toward the \u201cBad Orange Man,\u201d aren\u2019t exactly profiles in courage. If they do get tossed, they\u2019ll likely be replaced by someone even further gone \u2014 another creature of the loony left, eager to outdo the last in performative outrage.<\/p>\n
Of course, there\u2019s a glimmer of hope: in districts where voters still possess a shred of sanity, a Republican might just slip through. But it all brings to mind that timeless bit of wisdom often attributed to H.L. Mencken: \u201cNobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people.\u201d<\/p>\n
A few Democrats appear to be realizing that endless obstruction isn\u2019t a winning strategy. So far, two Democratic senators \u2014 John Fetterman of Pennsylvania and Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada \u2014 along with independent Angus King of Maine, who caucuses with the Democrats, have broken ranks to vote in favor of reopening the government. The rest of the party, though, remains under the spell of the far-left fringe, and it\u2019s hard to see how that ends well for them.<\/p>\n
And as for the \u201cNo Kings\u201d movement? When your weekend protests end up producing more comedy fodder for AI videos like the one below than genuine public sympathy, it\u2019s a safe bet your cause is already finished:<\/p>\n
