Heaven, as it turns out, is not the eternal party everyone hoped for. After a glorious decade spent in paradise—a span featuring perpetual clouds of perfect smoke, an endless supply of snacks, and the bewildering joy of non-stop 90s boy band reunions—Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel have hit a wall of existential boredom. The pure, unadulterated happiness of the afterlife has become profoundly, mind-numbingly dull. But fate, or perhaps divine intervention, has a much hotter, messier plan. This Is the End 2: Highway to Hell completely flips the script, forcing the boys to stage an impossible jailbreak out of the pearly gates to rescue their eternally dammed friends.
The problem lies six feet (and several metaphysical layers) under. Down in the abyss, Danny McBride, proving that true evil transcends the mortal coil, has successfully pulled off the ultimate hostile takeover. He has somehow managed to overthrow the Prince of Darkness and transform Hell into a deeply unsettling, yet strangely familiar, cannibalistic college fraternity. McBride rules this fiery domain like a petty, power-crazed dictator, having enslaved his former friends, James Franco and Jonah Hill, to serve as his perpetually terrified and abused court jesters.
Their mission is severely under-equipped. Armed with nothing more than diluted holy water, ill-fitting halos, and the truly abysmal improvisational comedy skills they honed on Earth, the gang must face a gauntlet of trials. They will encounter demonized, vengeful versions of A-list celebrities and battle the terrifying manifestations of their own deepest psychological nightmares. This journey becomes a chaotic, divine comedy of errors, ultimately proving that the bond of true, deeply annoyed friendship is the only thing strong enough to withstand damnation—and that Danny McBride remains unequivocally the worst person in the entire universe, regardless of his post-mortem status.
