The season 9 premiere aired on ABC, and it seems the show is planning something big for Chimney.
-1-1 season 9 just premiered on ABC, and viewers already have so much to say about a potential new change in leadership.
The latest installment just started airing new episodes on October 9, and the season 9 premiere continued following the 118 as they navigate working without their late captain, Bobby Nash (
Even though it’s not necessarily settled who’s going to permanently replace Bobby on 9-1-1, the show dropped the official promo for the October 16 episode that seemingly inferred Chimney’s spot as captain. Amid seeing everyone react to an unexpected explosion, viewers see Chimney as he steps up to the plate to try and protect his fellow first responders.
“Everybody—in the engine!” Chimney screams in the clip that was later shared on YouTube.
Shortly after the promo aired on TV, fans on Reddit couldn’t help but voice how they wouldn’t mind seeing Chimney take over for Bobby in this role.
“I’m so in for Chim to become captain. Just take the damn test!” one person wrote. “Exactly. Chimney take the test!” another agreed. “Really looking forward to Chimney getting past his personal doubts to realize he deserves to be captain. Loved the reassurances he already got this episode!” a different follower added.
Even though we’ll have to wait and see whether Chimney permanently becomes the captain of the 118, Kenneth previously spoke out on how he thinks 9-1-1 will move forward without Bobby.
“For Chimney, this is going to be a tough one, definitely,” he previously told Entertainment Weekly in April 2025. “He’s been through a lot of rough things in his life, but I think this will trump all of them. He’s been on death’s door maybe 1,000 times, but emotional and mental scars are sometimes worse than physical, so the burden for the 118 is going to be tough.”
Guess we’ll need to tune in and see what happens next …

While Thomas running off into oncoming traffic and getting hit by a car was horrifying and terrifying, Jennifer is being a bit over the top about the whole thing. Rather than being grateful that Thomas only suffered minor injuries, Jennifer is blaming Chad for the whole thing, telling him he wasn’t putting the needs of his children first. However, Chad didn’t do anything that put Thomas in danger, as Jennifer claimed. Yes, he hugged Cat, but it was a comforting hug that a friend gives another friend, and he didn’t think Thomas was anywhere near that. Jennifer and Thomas happened upon the scene by accident. Chad immediately tried to explain, but it was Thomas who ran off. Jennifer is acting like Chad pushed his son into the street himself. Meanwhile, Chad was being selfless when he comforted Cat and selfless when he broke things off with Cat, despite her making him happy. All he has done is put the needs of his children first above his own. Jennifer then went and made Chad feel uncomfortable for living in the Horton house, when he was invited to live there with Thomas and Charlotte. Everything Jennifer said to Chad was completely uncalled for and irrational. While we understand her animosity toward Cat, calling Chad a selfish and negligent parent was taking things just a bit too far.
