Trump Makes Big Move As Shutdown Drags Into Week Two

During the government shutdown, several federal employee unions, including the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), filed lawsuits aiming to block mass layoffs they argue are illegal. The unions contend that the Trump administration is using the shutdown as a pretext to terminate thousands of federal workers who deliver essential services nationwide.

Everett Kelley, national president of AFGE, strongly condemned the move, calling it “disgraceful” and asserting that the layoffs violate legal protections for federal employees. The AFGE, representing over 800,000 members, is the largest federal employee union in the country and is leading the legal pushback against the administration’s actions.

Russ Vought, a key figure in the administration, has consistently championed efforts to reduce the federal workforce and cut costs. Since the beginning of Trump’s second term, Vought has pursued aggressive budgetary reductions, aligning with the broader administration goal of shrinking the size and scope of the federal government.

The shutdown began after a bipartisan spending bill failed to pass the Senate, with most Democrats voting against it. Despite multiple attempts by Senate Majority Leader John Thune to advance the bill, Democrats have held firm, repeatedly rejecting it over concerns about insufficient funding for their legislative priorities.

Central to the deadlock is the Democrats’ demand for $1.5 trillion in new spending on progressive initiatives. They also want to limit the president’s power to rescind previously allocated funds, a condition Republicans have rejected outright, branding the proposal as “dead on arrival.”

President Trump has openly acknowledged that the administration’s spending cuts are targeted at Democrat-supported programs. In a Cabinet meeting, he emphasized that only these programs would be cut, reflecting a partisan approach to budget reductions and intensifying tensions between the executive branch and Congressional Democrats.

Hollywood and politics collided once again last night when late-night host Jimmy Kimmel took aim at Donald Trump Jr. and his father, former President Donald Trump, during a fiery monologue that had audiences howling — and Don Jr. reportedly

The drama began on Jimmy Kimmel Live! when the comedian launched into a segment mocking the Trump family’s recent media appearances. Kimmel joked that Trump Jr. had been “campaigning harder for his dad’s attention than for any political office,” before showing a satirical video montage of Don Jr.’s public speeches — complete with exaggerated sound effects and comically edited “motivational” music.

“Don Jr. speaks like a man who just learned about caffeine and democracy on the same day,” Kimmel quipped, earning thunderous laughter from the studio crowd.

But the real punch came when Kimmel turned to Trump himself, joking, “Donald Trump says he’s the best at everything — except maybe picking people who can handle a microphone without shouting like a car alarm.”

According to fictional sources close to Don Jr., he was furious. Within hours, the businessman took to X (formerly Twitter) with a fiery series of posts blasting Kimmel and “Hollywood hypocrisy.”

“Jimmy Kimmel wouldn’t last five minutes outside his echo chamber,” Don Jr. wrote. “He spends every night mocking people who actually work for a living. If that’s comedy, I’ll stick to common sense.”

The posts quickly went viral, sparking a digital war between Kimmel’s fans and Trump supporters. Hashtags like #TriggeredTrumpJr and #KimmelClapback began trending, as both sides traded insults and memes.

Kimmel, never one to back down, responded the next night with his trademark smirk. “I think we might’ve hurt Don Jr.’s feelings,” he said mockingly. “Maybe I should send him a participation trophy — or better yet, a guest spot on

Political commentators (in this fictionalized world) called the exchange “a perfect storm of ego and entertainment.” Some praised Kimmel for his boldness, while others criticized him for “punching down” at public figures outside the political arena.

Still, it’s clear that Don Jr. isn’t laughing. One insider claimed he’s considering “taking the fight to the airwaves” with his own countersegment on social media. “He feels like Kimmel crossed the line,” the source said. “And when Don Jr. feels disrespected, he doesn’t let it go.”

By morning, late-night fans and political junkies alike were glued to their screens, waiting for the next punch.

As one fictional commentator summed it up: “In the battle between Hollywood humor and Trump family pride, there are no winners — just viral clips, angry tweets, and a lot of popcorn.”
