Ohio restaurateur shoved towel down girlfriend's throat, said prayer was useless: police

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WKRC) – A man who owns multiple Ohio restaurants allegedly forced a towel down his girlfriend’s throat and bit her nose after telling her, “You think God is going to help you?”

According to Cleveland.com, the alleged incident occurred on June 9, 2024 between 44-year-old Robert “Bobby” George and his 25-year-old girlfriend, who remained anonymous throughout the reporting and litigation. George was well known for the restaurants he owns – TownHall and Barley House in Cleveland.

The pair reportedly got into an argument that turned violent, with George strangling the victim, throwing her around the house, and not allowing her to leave. At one point, the 25-year-old allegedly hid in a closet and began praying that she wouldn’t die out loud, at which point George forced a towel down her throat and said, “You think God is going to help you?” He reportedly also bit her nose and spit on her face.

In her initial report to Cleveland police, the woman allegedly claimed that George had sexually and physically assaulted her multiple times between November 2023 and July 2024, including instances in which she was threatened with a gun.

George was initially arrested and charged with attempted murder, rape, and kidnapping, the outlet reported. On Monday, he was charged with attempted strangulation, with the stipulation that if he pleads guilty he will forgo the other charges and skip jury proceedings.

George’s defense said that he intends on pleading guilty to the charge of attempted strangulation.

Jefferson County prosecutor Jane Hanlin said the decision to offer George the option to plead guilty was in line with what the victim wanted.

“I can’t tell you how much respect I have for this young woman and everything that she has gone through,” Hanlin said in a statement to Cleveland.com. “I wanted to do something that was in line with how the victim wanted the case to resolve, and I wanted to do something that would protect the victim as well, because cases involving violence between partners can be very, very difficult for the victims to go through.”

In a move that’s sending shockwaves through Tinseltown, tech billionaire Elon Musk, Oscar-winning director Mel Gibson, and box office heavyweight Mark Wahlberg have announced the launch of a $3 billion film studio set to shake up the entertainment industry. The trio is joining forces to create a “bold new alternative” in Hollywood—one that they say will focus on traditional values and freedom of storytelling, instead of what they describe as the industry’s current “woke agenda.”

A New Vision for Hollywood

Dubbed “Liberty Studios” by insiders, the venture is already making headlines for both its star power and its stated mission. According to a joint press release, Musk, Gibson, and Wahlberg came together over their shared concern that Hollywood has become too “politically correct,” stifling creativity and alienating mainstream audiences. Their solution: a massive, privately funded studio where filmmakers are encouraged to put artistry, freedom of speech, and classical storytelling at the forefront.

“We believe audiences are hungry for movies that entertain and inspire—without preaching or pandering,” Musk said at a press event in Los Angeles. “Liberty Studios will welcome a diversity of thought and champion the core values that built this country: freedom, courage, family, and hard work.”

Star-Studded Leadership

Each of the three founders brings a unique strength to the table. Mel Gibson, known for his work both in front of and behind the camera, will head up the studio’s creative division, overseeing the selection and development of original projects. Mark Wahlberg, who has often spoken publicly about his faith and work ethic, will lead talent recruitment and business partnerships with other likeminded stars and filmmakers. Meanwhile, Elon Musk, fresh off his latest tech ventures, will manage the studio’s technology investments and strategy, promising to revolutionize film production with cutting-edge effects and green-screen innovations.

Industry Reaction: Applause, Skepticism, and Debate

The announcement has sparked fierce debate within Hollywood and beyond. Supporters argue the move is a breath of fresh air in an era where much of mainstream cinema is seen as out-of-touch with middle America. “We finally have an option for entertainment that’s not preaching at us,” one moviegoer tweeted.

Critics, however, accuse the trio of stoking division and using “traditional values” as a euphemism for excluding certain voices. Some point out Gibson’s controversial past and question whether the studio’s commitment to “diversity of thought” will truly translate to diverse stories and representation on screen.

Nevertheless, industry insiders say the involvement of Musk, Gibson, and Wahlberg ensures Liberty Studios will be a force to be reckoned with; several high-profile actors and directors are rumored to be in talks to sign first-look deals.

A New Chapter for Hollywood?

With $3 billion in initial funding and a flock of media attention, Liberty Studios aims to release its first original slate of movies and streaming content in 2026. Whether “anti-woke” sells at the box office remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—Hollywood’s status quo has been disrupted in a way few saw coming.

Stay tuned as the drama continues to unfold in Hollywood’s newest—and perhaps most controversial—studio saga.
