The NFL Has Punished Micah Parsons For Tripping Saquon Barkley

Packers star Micah Parsons is going to be a little bit lighter in the pockets following last week’s loss to the Eagles.

Green Bay came up just short in a low scoring Week 10 game that saw its defense hold the defending Super Bowl champs to just a touchdown and a field goal. However, lack of pressure on Jalen Hurts and a less than stellar performance from Jordan Love and the Packers offense gave the team its third loss of the year.

Parsons only had two tackles in the disappointing defeat — leading to a strange back-and-forth with FOX Sports 1’s Colin Cowherd. But it was a moment late in the fourth quarter involving Eagles running back Saquon Barkley that caught the attention of the NFL’s league office.

Barkley appeared to intentionally get tripped up by Parsons on a 2nd-and-7 run from Philly’s own 44-yard line with a little over four minutes to go in the “Monday Night Football” contest.

And even though a flag wasn’t thrown, it still resulted in discipline from Roger Goodell and Co. According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, Parsons was fined $12,172 for sticking his leg out on the Eagles’ star RB — which should’ve been a 15-yard penalty had referees spotted it in real-time.

Had Barkley not been tripped he likely would’ve broken a big run and not given the Pack a chance to potentially win or tie things up in the final seconds.

Following the Packers’ primetime loss, Micah was called out by prominent sports talk voice Colin Cowherd who claimed the former Dallas Cowboy has always been a “splash” player and not someone that can adequately defend the run.

“Micah is a great athlete and a heat-seeking missile. He is great to have in Green Bay when they lead games in the fourth quarter. But when they don’t and the offense dries up, he’s not very good at the run, so Philadelphia at the end of the game can try to run the clock down and just run at Micah,” Cowherd claimed.

That led to a pretty visceral response from the two-time All-Pro on X, who essentially told the syndicated radio host to “stfu.”

“We just held Saquon Barkley to 60 rushing yards, and our only losses have been holding teams to 13 points! Man, sometimes can y’all? Please stfu and enjoy great defense!” Parsons exclaimed. “Why do you think teams come into the games that were going to run the ball on 3rd and long? What effect do you think that is? Please stop giving people’s mics or listening to trash!”

Colin addressed Micah’s comments on the air the following day where he doubled-down on his opinion, leading the four-time Pro Bowler to challenge Cowherd: “If you think you’re better than me, switch jobs for the day.”

The Minnesota Wild (8-7-4) is back on home ice tonight to host the Vegas Golden Knights (8-4-5).  The Wild will be without forward Vladimir Tarasenko for the second straight game.

Tarasenko, 33, has two goals and ten points in 18 games this year for the Wild. He missed Saturday’s game against the Anaheim Ducks with a lower-body injury and will not play again on Sunday.

Wild head coach John Hynes said after the game that Tarasenko’s status will be day-to-day.
