As the Detroit Lions head into the second half of their season, Bleacher Report recently came out with each team’s breakout star for the second half of the season.
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox believes that wide receiver Jameson Williams is the name to watch for on the Lions roster moving forward.
“…Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell took over play-calling duties and made a concerted effort to get Williams the ball. The result? A season-high 119 yards and a touchdown on six receptions. The 24-year-old is poised to explode over the second half of the season,”
wrote Knox of Williams’ potential.
Williams has shown the potential and has had success that earned him a three-year, $83 million extension with $67 million guaranteed. He’s coming off a 2024 campaign that saw him record 58 receptions for 1,001 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. He has, however, failed to match that same level of success so far in 2025.
Seemingly underutilized, this Williams has recorded 27 receptions for 474 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns so far through 9 games.
That may very well change coming off the Lions 44-22 victory against the Washington Commanders. With head coach Dan Campbell taking over play calling from offensive coordinator John Morton, Williams put together his best output of the season, totaling 119 receiving yards, a touchdown, and six receptions.
It was the result of a calculated game plan to get the 24-year-old speedster more involved in the offense.
There is no question that Amon-Ra St. Brown is the number one receiving option in the Lions offense; however, the second option could and should be Williams. The fourth year wideout ranks 4th on the Lions behind St. Brown (64), Sam LaPorta (40), and Jahmyr Gibbs (32) in receptions; however, with a shift in offensive strategy, he could easily put together another solid output against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Philadelphia has one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL with Quinyon Mitchell most likely being locked up with St. Brown. Across from Mitchell, the Eagles have seen some mixed results with Adoree Jackson and Kelee Ringo taking the reps. With a weaker opponent across from him, Williams has the potential to unload on Philadelphia this weekend, strengthening his claim for a stellar back-half of his career.
New York, NY – New York Yankees star Jazz Chisholm has made a significant contribution to the legacy of the Negro Leagues, providing financial support to former players and their families. In a heartfelt statement, Chisholm also used the opportunity to call out racism, pledging to continue advocating for equality both in and outside of baseball.
Chisholm, who has become one of the most dynamic young stars in Major League Baseball, has long been an advocate for social justice. His latest initiative aims to honor the incredible contributions of the players who helped shape baseball during the segregation era. Many of these athletes, who were excluded from Major League Baseball due to racial barriers, have spent years without proper recognition or financial security.
“The history of the Negro Leagues is a story of resilience, greatness, and strength,” Chisholm said in a statement. “These players helped build the game we love today, and they deserve more than just acknowledgment. They deserve to be supported, and that’s why I’m stepping up to help them however I can.”
Chisholm’s financial support will go directly to the families of surviving Negro Leagues players and towards funds to ensure they receive the care and recognition they deserve. This initiative comes as part of a broader effort to raise awareness of the historical contributions of Black athletes to baseball, as well as to address the ongoing issues of racial inequality in the sport.
“The sacrifices these players made were incredible,” Chisholm continued. “They played in the face of discrimination, and still they brought joy and excellence to the game. It’s an honor to help them and their families, and I’ll continue to stand up against racism wherever I see it.”
In addition to his financial commitment, Chisholm also took the opportunity to address the persistent issues of racism that continue to affect not only baseball but society as a whole. “Racism has no place in this game or in our world. The history of racism in baseball, in any sport, is something we must confront and actively fight against,” Chisholm stated. “We have a responsibility to make sure the next generation of athletes isn’t facing the same battles that so many of our heroes had to endure.”
Chisholm’s remarks have sparked widespread support from fans, fellow athletes, and activists alike. His actions reflect his deep commitment to both honoring the past and ensuring a more inclusive and equitable future in sports.
“Jazz has always used his platform for positive change,” said Yankees manager Aaron Boone. “He’s a role model for everyone, not just for the way he plays the game, but for the way he stands up for what’s right. His support for the Negro Leagues players is a testament to the kind of person he is.”
Chisholm’s efforts highlight the importance of giving back to those who have been historically overlooked and underappreciated, while also challenging the ongoing fight for racial justice in America.
