KID ROCK CANCELS ALL NEW YORK CITY TOUR DATES OVER POLITICAL DISPUTE

Rock Star vs. New Mayor

In a surprising move that has stirred both the music and political worlds, Kid Rock—born Robert James Ritchie—announced he is canceling all his scheduled New York City tour dates for 2026. The decision comes just days after Zohran Mamdani, the 34-year-old democratic socialist, won the NYC mayoral election on November 4.

Taking to X, Ritchie posted: “SORRY NYC, BUT I DON’T SING FOR COMMIES,” accompanied by a middle-finger emoji and an edited image of himself flipping off the Statue of Liberty. The tweet has sparked widespread discussion, dividing fans, commentators, and political observers alike.

The “Rock the Country” Tour and Its Fallout

Ritchie’s “Rock the Country” tour has been a massive success, grossing $45 million in 2025. His canceled NYC shows—including three Madison Square Garden dates—were expected to bring in $15 million. Fans scrambled for refunds, while ticket resellers posted thousands of seats at deep discounts.

Supporters view the move as a principled stance. Social media users and conservative commentators praised Ritchie’s refusal to perform under a progressive administration. Even former President Donald Trump weighed in, encouraging Ritchie to focus on Texas venues instead.

Criticism and Backlash

Critics quickly condemned Ritchie’s cancellation. NYC Comptroller Brad Lander called it “a petulant stunt,” while Jimmy Kimmel joked that New Yorkers could now “skip the drama.” Some within the country music scene, including Jason Aldean, urged keeping music separate from politics, emphasizing that performances should remain inclusive for all audiences.

Mayor-elect Mamdani responded with humor, inviting Kid Rock to perform in the city and joking about NYC’s free concert series. His team highlighted the strong voter turnout and broad coalition that fueled his victory, framing the city’s political shift as reflective of changing demographics and priorities.

Political and Cultural Implications

Ritchie’s withdrawal highlights the growing intersection of entertainment and politics, particularly as artists take public stances on social issues. Mamdani’s platform, which includes universal rent control, millionaire taxation, and public transit initiatives, represents a significant departure from the city’s traditional policies and has triggered responses from both supporters and opponents nationwide.

Economically, venues in NYC may feel the impact, as several high-profile “red-state” performers reconsider bookings. Yet for many residents, the cancellation opens space for alternative acts and programming, illustrating how cultural events can mirror political currents.

A Nation Divided, One Tour Cancelled

For Kid Rock, the cancellation is framed as an act of defiance against policies he perceives as socialist. For NYC, it is a reminder of the tension between celebrity influence, political change, and cultural expectation. As the tour reroutes to other U.S. cities, the story continues to unfold, reflecting broader debates about freedom of expression, urban politics, and the role of artists in shaping public discourse.

CARLSON’S ACCUSATIONS

After Tucker Carlson claimed the FBI lied about the Donald Trump assassination attempt, the agency responded directly. Carlson questioned the FBI’s statements regarding suspect Thomas Crooks, suggesting the bureau misrepresented his digital footprint. Crooks, charged with attempting to kill Trump at a July campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, ultimately only struck the president’s ear but killed 50-year-old firefighter Corey Comperatore. A Secret Service sniper shot Crooks shortly after, while two others, David Dutch and James Copenhaver, were injured.

Carlson said, “The FBI told us Thomas Crooks tried to kill Donald Trump last summer, but somehow had no online footprint. The FBI lied, and we can prove it because we have his posts. The question is why?”

THE FBI RESPONDS

The FBI Rapid Response account pushed back immediately: “The FBI has never said Thomas Crooks had no online footprint. Ever.”

CARLSON DOUBLES DOWN

Carlson later shared a video he claimed the FBI, under director Kash Patel, had tried to hide. The footage, allegedly from Crooks’ Google Drive, showed shooting drills and suggested Crooks maintained multiple online personas and left YouTube comments. Carlson argued that this proved Crooks “was not some secretive lone wolf who never warned anyone that he was planning violence.” He added, “Thomas Crooks came within a quarter inch of destroying this country, and yet, a year and a half later, we still know almost nothing about him or why he did it.”

He accused the FBI of “hiding from the public what they know” and described Crooks as a “volatile, troubled, possibly mentally ill young man with a long record of espousing violence in public.” Carlson claimed the bureau “used a selective read of those comments to lie about what Thomas Crooks was thinking.”

THE FBI SETS THE RECORD STRAIGHT

On Friday, Patel released documents and statements that contradicted Carlson’s claims. On X, he wrote: “The investigation, conducted by over 480 FBI employees, revealed Crooks had limited online and in-person interactions, planned and conducted the attack alone, and did not leak or share his intent to engage in the attack with anyone.”

The bureau detailed its investigation, which included examining over 20 online accounts, data from more than a dozen electronic devices, numerous financial records, and over 1,000 interviews plus 2,000 public tips. Patel’s statement reinforced that Crooks acted independently and that the FBI had no record of him openly warning anyone about his intentions.
