The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are releasing undrafted rookie free agent defensive tackle Desmond Watson per multiple sources.
“Bucs have released rookie defensive tackle Desmond Watson from their practice squad. He was with the team in preseason as well. These moves are sometimes driven by injuries at other positions requiring new depth.”
Desmond Watson’s initial release by the Buccaneers back in August wasn’t due to a lack of talent, but rather concerns about his weight and conditioning. Although he took part in the team’s offseason program, he struggled enough to be placed on the non-football injury list at the start of training camp. After several weeks on the NFI list, he was cleared and released from it in late August, only to be cut loose by the team.
Watson was re-signed to the team’s practice squad in September. No corresponding move has been announced.
We got injury updates on Frank Nazar and Jason Dickinson yesterday. Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs might be missing their best player when they come to town.
The Chicago Blackhawks are back at the United Center tonight as they host the Eastern Conference-leading New Jersey Devils. Check back in this afternoon for a complete game preview and again late tonight for postgame analysis. Until then, here are some fresh Morning Chirps to hold you over.
