Governor Greg Abbott sent social media into overdrive this week after jokingly warning that he would impose a “100 percent tariff” on anyone fleeing New York City for Texas if progressive candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the mayor’s race.
Abbott’s post on X (formerly Twitter) captured the mood of many Texans frustrated by what they view as the consequences of liberal policies—high taxes, crime, and economic decline—driving residents away from blue states.
While the governor’s remark drew headlines, supporters say it underscores a serious message: Texas’s economic strength and public safety record did not happen by accident.
Abbott’s office clarified that the statement was tongue-in-cheek but reflected the governor’s growing concern over the influx of residents from Democrat-run cities who then vote for the same policies they left behind.
“Texas has become America’s economic engine because we protect freedom, keep taxes low, and back the blue,” Abbott said in a follow-up statement.
“If people want to enjoy that success, they should embrace the principles that built it.”
Texas continues to lead the nation in job creation and business relocations, even as cities like New York and San Francisco struggle with population losses and rising costs of living.
Economists credit the state’s balanced budgets, energy independence, and pro-growth regulations as key to its stability during national downturns.
Conservatives argue that liberal leaders have undermined once-thriving cities with soft-on-crime policies and aggressive tax hikes, prompting families and businesses to seek refuge in Republican-led states.
Abbott’s playful “tariff” line resonated widely across social media, where thousands of users echoed the sentiment that Texas should protect its way of life.
“Texans built something worth preserving,” wrote one supporter. “We just don’t want outsiders bringing failed ideas with them.”
Democratic critics seized on the governor’s remark, calling it divisive. But Republicans counter that Abbott’s record—on border security, energy independence, and job creation—speaks for itself.
The governor has repeatedly urged new arrivals to respect local laws and values, emphasizing Texas’s unique blend of liberty and responsibility.
Under Abbott’s leadership, the state has attracted major employers such as Tesla, Oracle, and Samsung, while maintaining some of the nation’s lowest overall tax burdens.
Supporters say those achievements validate conservative governance in action and justify Abbott’s defense of Texas’s model.
“Texas doesn’t need to import New York’s problems,” said state Senator Bryan Hughes. “We need to keep exporting our solutions.”
The exchange comes amid growing national debate over population shifts from blue states to red, with U-Haul reporting record demand for one-way moves to Texas and Florida.
Abbott’s allies describe the viral post as a symbol of Texas pride—and a warning to progressive politicians that their failed policies are driving Americans elsewhere.
By standing firm, Abbott once again positioned Texas as a standard-bearer for conservative success and a model for states seeking prosperity through freedom, security, and common sense.
As the governor summed it up: “We welcome anyone who shares our values. But if you want Texas results, you’ve got to believe in Texas principles.”
BREAKING: Anna Paulina Luna Claims The Biden DOJ DESTROYED…
Representative Anna Paulina Luna has leveled explosive information against the Biden Department of Justice, claiming that critical materials related to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation have been deliberately destroyed.
This assertion, if proven true, would represent one of the most damning instances of governmental obstruction and cover-up in recent history.
Luna, who chairs a congressional task force focused on federal transparency, has stated unequivocally that she possesses evidence implicating high-ranking officials in the DOJ.
According to her, these officials not only failed to disclose materials related to Epstein but actively destroyed them to conceal the extent of powerful individuals’ involvement in Epstein’s criminal network.
She introduced legislation titled the SHRED Act, aimed at imposing severe penalties on government agents who destroy or conceal federal records. The proposed bill calls for 20 years to life in prison for anyone caught eliminating evidence in cases of national significance.
“Even if they are conducting a criminal investigation, you should probably pick up the phone and call us,” Luna told Fox News. “We have been more than patient.”
These developments come amid growing conservative suspicion that the Biden administration has no interest in unmasking Epstein’s full network. The notion that key records could be gone forever only intensifies fears that justice is being buried under a bureaucratic rug.
Luna’s office has reportedly sent multiple requests to the Department of Justice demanding clarity on the handling of Epstein-related materials. So far, those inquiries have been met with either vague responses or complete silence.
The congresswoman did not mince words in her public statements, suggesting that the DOJ’s behavior constitutes a deliberate act of obstruction. If true, such actions could violate federal law and trigger an entirely new legal battle.
“The Biden DOJ has obstructed Congress, ignored subpoenas, and now appears to have destroyed critical evidence,” Luna said. “This is corruption at the highest level.”
Critics argue that this is yet another example of double standards in Washington. “Had this been a Republican-led DOJ accused of destroying documents in a child sex trafficking case, the media would be apoplectic,” one conservative commentator noted.
For years, the Epstein case has symbolized the deep rot within America’s elite circles. The financier’s suspicious death in prison and the subsequent lack of high-profile indictments have fueled accusations of a widespread cover-up.
Now, Luna’s allegations breathe new life into those concerns. If records were indeed destroyed, the implications are profound. It would mean that the DOJ, under Biden, actively shielded criminals from justice.
What’s more troubling is that these destroyed materials could have named prominent individuals—politicians, celebrities, and global financiers—who participated in or enabled Epstein’s crimes.
In this context, Luna’s SHRED Act isn’t just legislative symbolism. It is a clarion call for accountability in an era marked by elite impunity. Her bill seeks to ensure that future officials think twice before erasing truth from the historical record.
Despite Luna’s repeated calls for transparency, there has been no formal response from Attorney General Merrick Garland. The silence speaks volumes to many who believe the DOJ is stonewalling on purpose.
Meanwhile, conservative lawmakers have rallied behind Luna. A growing number of Republicans in the House and Senate are voicing support for investigations into the DOJ’s handling of Epstein evidence.
Some have even floated the idea of appointing a special counsel to probe the matter independently. Given the stakes, such a move may be the only path forward to restore public confidence.
This latest scandal further erodes the credibility of an already battered Department of Justice. From the Hunter Biden laptop fiasco to the political targeting of conservatives, the agency has been repeatedly accused of partisanship.
Now, with Epstein documents allegedly destroyed, the DOJ’s credibility is in tatters. Public trust, once broken, is hard to rebuild.
The American people deserve the truth. And if Luna’s allegations are accurate, they deserve justice, no matter how high the guilty parties sit.
A Bangladesh Air Force training plane crashed into a school campus in the capital city of Dhaka on Monday, killing at least 16 persons, the majority of whom were kids.
According to the office of interim leader Muhammad Yunus, the accident also injured over 100 persons, with at least 83 of them receiving medical attention in other hospitals.
In the afternoon, children were on the Milestone School and College campus in the Uttara section of the city when the plane crashed upon it.
Television images showed smoke and fire rising from the crash site as onlookers attempted to extinguish the flames.
Other videos that have gone viral on social media depict hordes of kids frantically escaping the area.
In a brief statement, the public relations office of the Bangladesh Army confirmed that the fallen F-7 BGI aircraft was Air Force property.
Yunus went on to say that “necessary measures” would be made to “ensure all kinds of assistance” and look into the accident’s cause.
“The loss suffered by the Air Force…students, parents, teachers and staff, and others in this accident is irreparable,” he said.
According to the local newspaper Prothom Alo, preliminary reports suggested that the jet had collided with the college canteen’s roof.
The incident occurs just over a month after the world’s worst aviation tragedy in a decade occurred when an Air India airline fell on top of a medical college hostel in Ahmedabad, India, a neighboring city. The crash killed 241 of the 242 persons on board and 19 on the ground.
Fuel switches for the engines of the lost Boeing 787 Dreamliner started to lose thrust and sank shortly after taking off for London from the Indian city on June 12, according to an early study into the tragedy.
The audio recorder in the cockpit captured one pilot asking the other why he had cut off the fuel in the last moments of the flight.
According to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) report from India, “the other pilot responded that he did not do so.”
It did not identify which remarks were made by the flight’s captain and which by the first officer, nor which pilot immediately transmitted the distress call: “Thrust not achieved… falling… Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!”
All but one passenger on board and 19 persons on the ground were killed when the airplane crashed into a dormitory in Gujarat, lost altitude, and burst into a blaze seconds later.
Early evaluations by investigators show that neither the Boeing nor its engines appear to have been at fault, indicating that neither Boeing nor engine manufacturer GE appeared to be accountable for the accident.
However, how the switch, which is used to start or stop the engines and is usually left on during flight, might have flipped to the cutoff position is not explained in the paper.
“Did they move on their own or did they move because of the pilots?” he asked. “And if they were moved because of a pilot, why?”
‘Allowable limits’ were met by the jet’s 54,200 kg of fuel, according to the study.
“The aircraft achieved the maximum recorded airspeed of 180 Knots IAS at about 08:08:42 UTC and immediately thereafter, the Engine 1 and Engine 2 fuel cutoff switches transitioned from RUN to CUTOFF position one after another with a time gap of 01 sec,” the report said.
“The Engine N1 and N2 began to decrease from their take-off values as the fuel supply to the engines was cut off.”
Referring to data recovered from the plane’s two Enhanced Airborne Flight Recorders (EAFR), it continues: “As per the EAFR, the Engine 1 fuel cutoff switch transitioned from CUTOFF to RUN at about 08:08:52 UTC. The APU Inlet Door began opening at about 08:08:54 UTC, consistent with the APU Auto Start logic.”
The Engine 2 fuel cutoff switch then switches from CUTOFF to RUN at 08:08:56 UTC.
“When fuel control switches are moved from CUTOFF to RUN while the aircraft is inflight, each engine’s full authority dual engine control (FADEC) automatically manages a relight and thrust recovery sequence of ignition and fuel introduction.”
