The New York Jets acquired a new wide receiver at the trade deadline when they pulled off the blockbuster deal with the Indianapolis Colts.
Former Colts second-round pick and wide receiver Adonai Mitchell was included in the blockbuster deal, along with two first-round picks.
We were hoping to see Mitchell make his Jets debut in Week 10, but that didn’t end up happening and instead he was a healthy scratch simply because he needed more time to learn the playbook.
But will the Jets have Mitchell on the field in Week 11? Here’s what we know.
Yes, Mitchell is active for the Jets on Thursday night.
However, don’t be surprised if Mitchell sees limited snaps, as Connor Hughes of SNY reports he’s still learning the offense and he was working with the second-team unit in pre-game warm-ups.
“AD Mitchell working with the second offense in warmups. We’ll see how much he plays. Still learning offense,” Hughes wrote.
The Jets could certainly use a contribution from him, with New York missing its top wideout, Garrett Wilson, who was placed on injured reserve on Thursday because of his knee injury.
It has been a weird season for New York Jets wide receiver Allen Lazard.
Entering the 2025 campaign, Lazard was expected to serve as the team’s No. 2 wide receiver, but he has been anything but that with just 45 receiving yards through six games played.
Why has Lazard only playing six games when the Jets have played nine in total? That’s where the weird part comes in, as Lazard has been a healthy scratch on multiple occasions throughout the season.
Is Lazard finally active on Thursday night against the New England Patriots in Week 11? Here’s what we know.
Lazard is indeed active tonight, but it remains to be seen how much action he’ll see after SNY’s Connor Hughes reported that Lazard was not one of the wide receivers working with the starters in pre-game warm-ups.
“John Metchie, Tyler Johnson, Isaiah Williams and Arian Smith are warming up with the starting offense. So is Justin Fields. He’s starting again,” Hughes wrote.
It would be puzzling to see the Jets avoid using Lazard much considering their lack of options in the passing game due to Garrett Wilson’s injury, but considering what we’ve seen with Lazard this season, it wouldn’t shock us.
The New York Jets need more out of rookie wide receiver Arian Smith in the Week 11 game against the New England Patriots.
A fourth-round pick, Smith has been quiet through the first half of this season but he has a golden opportunity to get more work in Week 11, as Garrett Wilson is out because of injury.
However, Smith is off to his typical start against the Patriots on Thursday night. Here’s a closer look at what’s going on.
Yes, Smith is active, but he is not starting and instead the Jets utilized John Metchie, Tyler Johnson, Adonai Mitchell and Isaiah Williams instead.
Not a great sign for his chances of producing on Thursday night, but there’s still time for him to get going.
The New York Jets need more out of their wide receivers in the Week 11 game against the New England Patriots and that includes John Metchie III.
That’s because the Jets’ No. 1 wide receiver, Garrett Wilson, is on injured reserve with a knee injury that will sideline him for at least the next four games.
However, Metchie has not gotten going yet early on in the Thursday night contest versus New England’s AFC East rival.
Let’s find out what’s going on.
Metchie is active and even got the starting nod, he just wasn’t targeted on the opening drive.
Believe it or not, the Jets’ offense actually put together a successful opening series, but it was very run-heavy, so there wasn’t much of a chance for Metchie to get going.
We’ll see if things change on drive No. 2.
ESPN’s Rich Eisen, host of the “Rich Eisen Show”, spoke out today about the conflicting quotes that came out of the Atlanta Falcons locker room on Wednesday regarding quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and his relationship with Atlanta’s staff.
During Wednesday’s presser, the quarterback was asked who he could rely on for help both on and off the field.
“No,” Penix replied after some thought. “Mentally, my fiancée she’s always there for me… But as far as like physically like on the field stuff, umm, it’s not nobody that I will talk to, like as far as like another quarterback or anything like that. You know, I do have people reach out to me. I do have quarterback coaches back at home that reach out to me as well, telling me like ‘hey, you need to clean this up, clean that up’, so those guys help me as far as that too.”
The second-year quarterback did not mention any names on the Falcons’ coaching staff, nor did he mention the backup quarterback Kirk Cousins, who is an 11-year NFL veteran, as a mentor. The comments left Eisen shocked.
“And then Penix is asked, who are you relying on, and he doesn’t mention the head coach, and he doesn’t mention the offensive coordinator, and he doesn’t mention the quarterbacks coach, he doesn’t mention anybody there [in Atlanta],” Eisen said on Thursday.
What makes Penix’s comments all the more shocking to Eisen was that the comments came after head coach Raheem Morris said he felt the need to be there for his quarterback after the loss in Berlin.
“Those are the things you like to talk to him [Penix] about. Provides a little bit of relief for him, letting him know it’s okay to be vulnerable in that moment, but at the same time, don’t be so disgruntled and hard on yourself that you blame yourself for everything, and it’s like, it’s the reason after those tough press conferences it’s my job to go protect him.” Morris said and read by Eisen on his show.
The contrasting comments left the radio host wondering how these different feelings can coexist with each other.
“And you hear that and it’s like, how do you square everything?” Eisen wondered aloud.
If there is truly a sentiment that there is no one on the team that he can rely on, perhaps there is a need for dialogue between him and the Falcons. A player should be able to say that he has the help he needs on the team he’s playing for.
