Josh Allen believes he’s found the solution to the Buffalo Bills’ offensive struggles.
After a humiliating loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 10, Allen faced a barrage of questions surrounding the team’s offensive performance as the Bills searched for answers heading into Week 11. While panic may be spreading throughout the fanbase, Allen is confident he knows what has been hindering their offense.
“Losing sucks, but knowing that in our losses this year, we’ve turned the ball over, and that’s something I take responsibility for. And knowing that if we take care of the ball and do what we’re asked to do, we’ll be a really good football team.”
— Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills Quarterback
Allen’s admission highlights the key issue that’s been affecting the Bills’ performance: turnovers. In their three losses this season, the Bills have had a negative turnover differential of -5 (8 takeaways, 3 giveaways), while in their six wins, they’ve enjoyed a +7 turnover differential (18 takeaways, 11 giveaways). The message is simple: win the turnover battle, and the Bills will likely win the game.
“Turnovers are part of the game, they’re going to happen,” Allen added. “But we have to limit them and do everything we can to ensure that we’re doing everything in our power to finish every drive with a kick.”
Allen has struggled with turnovers this season, with five interceptions and two fumbles in just nine games—more than he had during his MVP season. Despite this, he remains confident that the Bills can turn things around and still meet their goals for the season.
“With the veterans in this locker room and our leadership, we’re going to make sure we clean this up, get back on track, have a good week of practice,” he said.
The trend throughout the season suggests that the Bills may continue to face challenges with turnovers as the season progresses. However, if Allen’s confidence is well-placed and Buffalo can fix this issue, they may return to the high-scoring offense they’ve been known for, putting up 30 points with the same efficiency that made them a contender in the past. The pressure is on for Allen and the Bills to address their mistakes and get back on track toward their ultimate goal.
